So how does a Bogner xtc's serial number just "come off"

eh, if it's just written on the metal with some type of white marker (which it kinda looks like?), maybe it could have come off if a previous owner thought it'd be a good idea to clean the amp with goo-be-gone or acetone or something. But, yeah... I'd be concerned it's hot.
 
Seriously, how often does anything come into contact with that part of the amp?

Looks like it's kinda there but they are written in in marker. Look where it says use first, both my Bogners are written in marker for serial and use first for output jack. If you were wiping down the amp it may come off. Funny that the "owner" doesn't know it's not a tag that came off.
