And its a bugera...

Now I'm well aware this thing is an unreliable piece, but at a price of 200 dollars for a 120 watt head, is there a better option for a head for a few gigs?

I'm getting together with some guys for a few sets at a bar that want's a metallica and megadeth coverband, and maybe some stable gigs if everyone can get they're shit together . My other guitar player is currently jamming on a spider iii after his mark iv went down(mesa wont be sending it back for quite a while) i cannot hear this thing for a lick while my amps whispering even if i put my ear to it.

Jamming on a 5153 50watt i just snagged, and i'm wondering if this bugera will cut through.

He has a limit of only 300. So i'm short on ideas( and other guitar players, so not an option either)

Go to guitar center, buy a real amp. Use it for 25 days then return it.
There ya go. In that price range though....hmm..I think I saw a used Marshall MOSFET 100 for under 300....I've heard they are decent....gig worthy anyway. Crate Stealth is a decent sounding cheapo too...but I'm with Reza on this. GC.com is your friend..

I would rather pass my guitar back and forth and drop the rhythm than step into a guitar center, even to scam them on an amp rental.

This comment is in no way meant to be an asshole remark, just to express my pure hated for guitar center.

Gonna see if i can plug into a mosfet though after work, i see a decent price locally on craigslist

At least you see it for what it is.

nothing wrong w/ Bugeras....best bang for buck IMHO

Is he a good player? A great player will sound better on a Bugera, than a mediocre player on a SLO.

Truth!

I honestly do not think they are the best bang for the buck. If nothing comes in that price range in a tube head, may as well mic up a line 6 head, probably more reliable than that bugera.

I had the 6260 for a very short time some years back just to see how it would gel in rehearsal. Garbage.

I've never bought anything to knowingly use and then return. I've bought and tried it and maybe something better comes up, so I use the return policy and apply the refund towards the next used item. Most of the gear I have has come from their used listings. I have a 78 JMP 2203 coming for 999 from them. Hoping to keep it...but we'll see. I've spied a few 'replacement' amps they have for the same price to grab if this one isn't a keeper. All used. It really is a great policy and they've gotten a lot of business from me over the past few years.

Yeah, hes good. I just frankly cannot hear half of his licks, and trying to only focus on the bass the entire time drives me crazy.

The 6260 is the possible bugera too.... a mic up is where were sitting right now if the bugeras a bust.

I just wanna play a sweet show for people.I haven't gotten some live action in years, and i feel like my backing tracks are becoming the equivalent of porn.... I just wanna good lay... down of metal

If that is all he can afford, then it is what it is. How would he afford to "rent" something better from guitar center?

Bugeras don't sound all that bad to be honest. It's just the reliability that's an issue.

Seems character is in short supply these days.
So does that mean everything you buy used you shouldn't be able to return? I grabbed a 69 super lead, pretty beat, for 1500 a couple years ago. Fair price given the condition. Got it and kept popping fuses off standby. Tried different tubes..to no avail. So I returned it. Got something different. Probably needed a new transformer but I didn't want to go through that expense. Just like car dealers, GC probably just makes sure it powered on and put a price tag on it. Another time I bought a guitar, only to have the truss rod broken when I got it! Crazy. EBay is worse..6 months to see if you like it??? I wonder how that's working out...I've never 'rented' gear from them...just returned it within 30 days if I didn't like it. 99% of the time I put the funds towards something else they have anyway.

Based on your comments, it seems like you're using GC's policy for its intended purpose.

A different option, likely not a popular one though....get a used hd500 or 400, should be far less than $300.

Set up a patch using the Mesa heads...cause I've found they typically cut better than most other heads on board. He can run his pedals through if he wants, or use the on board efx...some of which ain't too bad.

He can run it straight to the board or through a nice cab (if he has one) and mic it. When you're done keep it as back up or practice rig or whatever.

One more option are Marshall Artists...3203 or 4203 combo. They are usually in that price range. 30 watts, el34 and a solid state preamp. Nice little amp with tube saturation.

Borrow a real amp for the gig. You people must know someone who would let you use one for a few beers and a meal......

If he has a descent cab maybe a used Egnator Rebel 20 ? I use one as my back up rig.

Exactly what I thought too. The HD imo is more reliable and probably sounds way better. Again, did not like the 6260 I had for a NY minute but thats just my taste.

The HD for that $ is a better bang for the buck imo.

A used XXX or Ultra Plus generally go for $300 ish on CL and GC used.
Spyder Valves and Tube Vypers are $300 used and while a modeler can be heard with other tube amps vs the SS Spyder imo.

If by bang you mean how many times it will blow up per buck then yes.. it is good bang for buck
