So a few weeks ago I picked up a cheap, beat up old Randall 2x12 cab with lots of cuts, nicks, dents, rips etc. I didn't really mind cause I wanted a beater cab that I could haul around and not have to baby.

I decided to try to spruce it up a little by super gluing all tolex rips and cuts, sanding them down a little and paint it white. It actually came out pretty cool looking. You can still see all the covered over blemishes but thats ok.. its a beater ;) Here are the before and after pics.

Nice!! I bet a guy could use something like Rhino liner or some knock off product (The crap they use for truck bed liners)?

Dude...I played the JJ Jr. through a new Randall 2x12 with V30s and it SMOKED! I'm thinking of picking one up.

Looks great man! Awesome job on that!
Not bad for two cans of vinyl spray paint from O'Reilly Auto Parts and a few hours on my lanai.  I also touched up the speaker grill cloth and the amp corner covers with some flat black spray paint. Grill cloth looks newish. Was debating on adding a clear coat but if I get sick of white I was going to go black, white and grey camo like how ESP guitars look. I dig that look.

Def can use that spray truck liner. I have an ISP sub with that type on it and honestly its tough as hell. It will scratch the shit out of your car trunk of SUV but will last forever lol.

You know the cab is ok for what it is. I'm sure there are much better cabs out there but here in Hawaii it is slim pickins on used cabs. And new cabs forget about it. I really wanted a Mojotone 2x12 slammins but the shipping was just as much as the cab

LOL! Ahh, the memories. :) Dude, I tried to ship an amp from the UPS on Sand Island Access Road back in the day with a blanket wrapped around it instead of bubblewrap, etc. They had me open the box up to check the inside and the guy unwraps this giant blanket and is like "brah, I can't ship this like this". I tried.

I remember that was one thing that sucked about being over there, the shipping. You would have to hope someone had what you were looking for. I remember they would always toss the boxes too because they didn't have room in the stores. If someone wanted to ship a drumset over there, good luck. Shipping would put you in the poor house. LOL!

I used to have the other version of that cab the cs212. It had a silver and black blend woven cloth and a removable 1/3 back section...two vintage 30s and that really cool direct out system that they have on the back of those cabs.

I used to have the other version of that cab the CS212. They used to pair it a lot with the old Randall MTS module line. It had a silver and black blend woven cloth and a removable 1/3 back section...two vintage 30s and that really cool direct out system that they have on the back of those cabs.

That made a huge improvement. Did you primer it first or just fix it and spray it? That turned out way better than I would have expected. Nice

dude if you could make a clip comparing the v30 and redback that would be awesome. you have any creambacks?

I just fixed it, then cleaned all the tolex with a mr clean magic eraser. When it dried the tolex was very dry feeling and used dupli color vinyl upholstery paint. I may seal it later with a clear coat to add a more shiny effect. Still debating on going with a black/grey/white camo design too.

I used this kind of paint.

I guess I could do them individually since its wired up stereo. So like a phone cam clip right?

thanks dude! the v30 sounds great with that mt15. the redback isnt what i was expecting, chugs sound good but the top end on it sounds a little raspy, it does sound good blended with the v30 though. i feel like a need a green/cream/redback in my recording cab, not sure which one to go for

The redback is definitely it's own thing and yeah the v30 did sounded pretty good.

Things to note though is I was playing at bedroom volume, maybe a tad louder than my normal bedroom level and the redback has maybe 5 hours played on it, so very far from being broken in. What I don't like about the v30 on its own or when paired with another v30 is that when you crank it really loud it seems to lose some definition and stabs you in the brain with an ice pick lol. When I ran two redbacks I definitely had to change up my normal amp settings to accommodate but it sounded pretty good too.

For a recording cab I'd probably go v30/greenback mix myself.

Yeah, have to agree. I was looking to maybe replace my V30 with a Redback and I didn't love what I heard in this video comparison--though, you're playing was great!

This was the first clip of the Redback I really didn't care for. ...Hmmm... LIke you, when I mic my V30 for gigs, it's kind of stabby, and I've been playing it a gig volumes for over a year now. I have to run my treble and presence below noon on my JJ100 at higher volumes.

Regardless, I'll keep researching... Thanks for making that comparison!

I have a beater Seismic 2x12 with G12T-75s in it. It sounds amazing. I absolutely love it. It's my band practice space, expendable cab and it's easy to replace if needed. But it sounds so awesome and was dirt cheap.
