So I played a peavey xxx. Something was off.

Who’s played a triple x?

On the crunch channel as I slowly raised the gain it went from all or nothing between 8 o’clock and 9 o’clock and didn’t change passed about 9 o’clock. Is this normal?

If that channel had a better sweep I think it would sound great but,as is it’s way to hard to tame.
 
I haven't played a XXX in a log time, but I do remember they have a shit ton of gain that comes on rather quick. Thought I don't remember if it came on that quick.
 
seen so many bands kicking ass with that amp, i just never came across one to try.
 
Seems a bit off but I’m also going off memory from 5 years ago. I kept mine low on orange channel and boosted. Sounds killer that way.
 
it’s actually worse than what I posted.
It’s more like 8:50 and then at 9 o’clock its full on gain. Like the gains all the way up. That’s just crazy to think it came that way.
Plexi to full on thrash instantly.
 
Def abnormal. I kept my gain on about 11-12 o’clock. And play with guitar volume. Love my XXX.
 
does the xxx have dual inputs? I know since retubing my ultra + and discovering the low input….damn it sounds great…honestly I have not paid attention to the gain sweep but on the ultra channel it does come on pretty hard.
 
Yeah, definitely not normal. There’s a ton of gain on tap on those amps in both the dirt channels, but it’s a pretty smooth increase the full turn of the pot. On both the XXL and XXX.
