and I can't halep but think Joe is trying to emulate Jimmy Page so much of the time. His tone, his playing, the effects... Anyone see this?

Jim

Page? Hmmmmmm, all I ever hear is EJ comments from guys? I dig his playin. BCC rocks.

The Theramin and the fact that Joe plays a section of "Dazed and Confused" in his set are the only hints of Jimmy Page I can see. I dig both guitar players, but similar tone and playing???? Not so much.

He has his influences and they seem to come out depending on how he feels at a certain time. Page, Johnson, Hendrix, etc. Probably has a few more but I don't know Joe personally....but I do know he's a fantastic player!

I honestly don't care, I was there and it was a KICK ASS concert. Really. Everybody is trying to emulate everybody to a certain point. Influences, we all are affected by that.

Can't wait to receive my Blu Ray copy.

Joe for sure appreciates and comes from that era of guitar playing along with all the other colors and brushes, so to speak, he gathers along the way.

I saw his show in NH in 2009 at the Lebanon Opera House . It was the last show before he was heading over seas to record the Royal Albert Hall show.... The guy played his butt off.

I haven't seen the Beacon theater stuff yet but I can't say I hear much Page in the tone and playing. The overall influence is definitely there along with Clapton (really comes out in the tone and playing...the overbends and blues licks) and the EJ (the picked pentatonic stuff). To me he does not attempt to hide his influences and that's cool. He makes no attempt to hide the fact that he's a guitar geek, a gear geek, and a fanboy to the same heroes we all have. And he just keeps getting better and better and better...Joe B is alright in my book.

He's also mastered marketing in the online age. Guys like Gilbert and Kotzen should be taking notes.

I *think* i understand what you mean. Joe is clearly a blues guy but he has this rock n roll approach (that he probably got from Page, Clapton, GM) and i believe thats why we like his playing so much.

When it comes to players of this caliber and so on.. I can't see myself using the word 'emulate'... 'influenced' most definitely!! And we are all, in some ways, influenced and inspired by the great players before us and with us.

+1. Joe's a musical chameleon who can play in so many different styles it ain't funny. He's gone from Rory, to Jeff Beck, to Danny Gatton, to Jimmy, to Peter Green, to Gary, to Clapton, to Koss, and now I feel like he's channeling EJ for the most part. Despite that, he still sounds like Joe when he plays.

I have had the pleasure of some hang out time with Joe back in the early days...he sites Paul Kossoff as a huge influence.
