what exactly will i need to be able to control my digitech whammy pedal?

I'm assuming i'll need a midi cable to go from the Whammy into the GCX switcher, probably 2 ft. will suffice, and an expression pedal from the GCP pedal out to actually control it.
i want to order all this stuff tonight and be done with this rig so am i missing anything??

I don't think you can control the Whammy remotely with an expression pedal.I believe the MIDI only works to change the presets.

5 pin midi cable from GCX midi out to midi jack on the whammy. the ground controller and switcher has a recognition controller for the whammy, best i remember. anyway, hook it up and it will find it. you will need a 1/4" instrument cable for the expression pedal to the GCP. it may have to be a trs cable. check the gcp manual. when i use a whammy, i run it out front though. too much trouble calling up a preset for it plus the new ones are true bypass, so no noise, as long as the wall wort is plugged into a decent power source and not something different than the rest of your gear. otherwise, get ready for 18 volts of quality hum.

i really like the whammy in the effects loop and i've had mine for about 5 to 6 years so i guess it's not true bypass but regardless the GCX takes care of that.
thanks man

So if I use my gcp and a expression pedal midi out to digitech IPS33b then the wammy will work? I plugged an expression pedal into the digitech and could not get it to work. I used a trs and a boss fv500 into the jack in the back of the IPS33b, how do you get the gcp and ex pedal working with it?

Not sure what an Digitech IPS33b is, but.......

Use a TRS cable to the P1 or P2 jack on the GCP from the expression pedal. I think even a volume pedal will work.

5 pin MIDI (wired hot for phantom power) OUT jack on GCP to Midi In jack on GCX.

5 pin Midi (can be passive) from GCX Midi thru to Whammy.

Power up whammy after pluggin it into a loop.

Go thru the set up sequence on the GCP. Under pedals, you have to activate P1 or P2 (yes for on), which ever you chose for your expression pedal.

The whammy will have to be label as a device with a device name and its type. Whammy should be Continous control CTL007. So, it would read P1.050.CTL007 when it is identified. The number in the middle is just a reference for the treddle.

If your whammy comes after some other rack effects device, you can do that as well, by using the midi through on device #2 to the whammy.

You will also need to set up to send CC (continuous control) message from the GCP to the GCX->Whammy and I think they only respond on Ch. 16.

Confused? Go to the Voodoo site. There are a dozen or so sample hook ups under the GCX....

I don't use mine anymore. I find the Bradshaw 4x4 much less cumbersome and the RS10 is a damn sight easier to control.

thanks. i will try that this weekend. i stopped using my gcp/gcx after i got the TC G system. i might split my rack up into 2 units, 1st tc g system-M4-rt2/50, 2nd gcp/gcx-M4-pedals-furman reverb-rt2/50. I couldnt get the gcp to controll the TC so i just use the tc. the wammy is the digitech IPS33B rackmount, the upgraded whammy (used by David Gilmour in Maroon)they are not really rare but they do bring in some good cash used on evil bay, about $350. i paid a third less than that and got one like new in original box with all the papers, looks like it was never opened. :D
