so my pedalboard works with some amps and not others...

I was having problems with using pedals in my amps fx loop. Whenever i turned on my my DL4 delay or my hardwire chorus it turned my whole sound into like a lo-fi am radio. I took my head to a tech and had it checked out. guy said it was fine and to bring in my whole rig to test it out. i brought it in and it did the same thing. all the pedals in front of the amp work great but whenever i activate things in the fx loop it gets all weird. i plugged it all into another mark V he had in the shop and the same thing. I then hooked up into a marshall DSL and it worked fine. No tone loss whenever my pedals were activated and everything worked great. I then left and went to Best Buy as it has a big music section and my friend who was with me needed some bass strings. while there i brought in all my stuff and plugged it into a Marshall JVM410h and got the same response as with my mesa, major tone change when my pedals were on in the loop. I then plugged into a peavey 6505+ combo they had and it worked fine with its fx loop. at that point i was stumped. i dont know what the deal is but its really tripping me out. Heres my fx loop chain:

amp send>>>ISP decimator g-string>>>Hardwire Chorus>>>DL4>>>ernie ball VP jr volume>>>amp return

all my pedals are powered with voodoo lab pedal power 2+

Is there a line/level switch somewhere that you've overlooked on the amp?

nope. i messed with the fx loop level switch on the mark V and the +10db/-4db and level knob on the JVM nothing worked. The tech i went to even swapped out tubes that the fx loop is buffered with on the V.

Are you perhaps plugging into a parallel vs. series effects loop?

Did you turn the effects send on the Mark V all the way up?

Which loop were you using on the JVM, the Parallel/Series loop or the Series/Bypass loop?

Did you turn off the Decimator at any point on the amps that didn't work well?

Could it be some kind of active versus passive switching mechanism/relay that's happening dependent on the loop of the amp in relation to the boards signal chain? As in - if you've got some 'smart' stomps on your pedalboard that require a certain back-signal to get activated, if the Mesa's loop is entirely passive, it might not close the circuit???

I'm thinking out loud here, not trying to muddy the waters, just grabbing anything I can think of...

Good luck with it man, let us know!!
