So now the Mesa JP2C is What???

The Gibson / “lifestyle” / “prestige” brand tax. Mesa Boogie was acquired by Gibson in 2021, probably all stock in stores at the time of acquisition was ok to sell at the old prices, any new gear came with a price bump.

It's a bad day to get into buying music gear. Even used prices have inflated a lot.
Used to keep a lot of the stuff I’d buy. Now it’s mostly just buying and selling to try different flavors. Got about 10 or so left to try then I’ll settle on 4 heads or so lol.

I don`t have good feelings about this and Gibson milking the cow inevitably comes to my mind. First step is increasing the prices and next step is decreasing the quality and costs while keeping prices stable?
Yes I know there`s this thing called inflation but going from 2700 to 4k in 2.5 years is like banana republic devaluation of money.

You guys prooflessly lambasting poor Gibson, shame on you all. Maybe John Petrucci's side hustle of signature beard oils/care products didn't take off and he's demanding higher royalties from Mesa to compensate. That moolah's got to come from somewhere.

Eh it’s everywhere man. ESP, Jackson, all are guilty of it and I’m a total fan boy of those. 4500 for a US built no custom shop options before tax… just Nuts. 1500 dollar guitars built in Indonesia with cracking fret boards. Shit, I saw my music zoo soloist custom shop is now selling for 6k can’t believe it.

I settled on 5 tube heads and a couple solidstate combos. Any more than that would be hard for me to keep up with. I like to tun them all frequently so they stay fresh and charged.

Yeah, most of their LP Standards are now $2999.

Not defending Mesa - I know nothing of their business or pricing strategies - but I do know the cost of some materials is up more than 200% post-Covid. Cost of labour is also rising steadily across many developed countries, plus soaring transport costs of course.

Honestly $4k doesn't seem unreasonable at all for a US-made tube amp... maybe I am defending Mesa.

I remember passing on one at $1800 a long time ago.

Just a guess but I think they are looking at it as a IIC+ alternative. They want to price it so you really have to think hard about just spending “a bit more” and getting the real thing.
