ok.....so,i've had some time with the amp now and i thought i'd give it a little review..................first off,i'd like to thank Paul (aka forum member "Lp Freak") for being a real cool guy.he's a very honest seller & it was a pleasant, smooth transaction purchasing this amp from him
anyways, back to the amp review.well it's a 2002 model year Marshall re-issue 1987x amp head w/fx loop.it's got the David Bray "MOD I" mod done to it plus a few other options added, such as a vintage/hot switch,dual-sound feature,a low-end Depth knob and footswitchable MV's.ok,so i a/b'd the Bray amp against my Friedman Brown Eye mod....as far as gain-on-tap,the Bray MOD I mod has a VERY good amount of gain, imo.it does everything from classic rock to early VH(especially that killer old VH tone).the amp is very responsive to pick attack and cleans up really well with the roll back of the guitar's volume knob.now,as far as the bottom-end,which seems to spark debate on whether it's loose or not,i've had the opportunity to play the same amp thru a JCM900 4x12 cab w/G12m 25-watters and also a Splawn 4x12 with the H30/V30 "X" pattern...i will say that the cab/speaker choice makes a considerable difference in how tight or loose the bottom end sounds.in the JCM900 cab,the Bray amp is sorta loose(i.e. "sag"),yet very traditional vintage-sounding for the tone that the mod is designed to cop.it's not a chugga-chugga amp,but then again,it's NOT supposed to be.when playing the amp thru the Splawn cab,it's alot tighter on the overall feel.otherwise, the tone has that great Marshall roar & grind and there's plenty of mids to the sound, guess you can say a mids-hump to it.compared to the Friedman Brown Eye tone, the Bray is about the same in gain-on-tap.the Bray is perhaps a bit rawer, middier and grindier whereas the Brown Eye tone is smoother overall.the Brown Eye low-end seems to be a nice balance of tight & chewy sag,so it does really well for both rhythm & leads.the Bray seems to excel at leads over rhythm chording, imo, although as i mentoned already, rhythm playing "feel" will vary significantly depending on the cab/speakers that you use...........all in all,the Bray MOD I amp sounds killer, for what it's meant to do,and sounds EXACTLY like the clips on Bray's website.....................for those that are wondering,NO,it's not gonna take the place of my Friedman amp, this Bray amp purchase was more of a buy 'n' try, just to finally check one out(i.e. GAS

),more than the idea of keeping it long-term......so,there ya go! if ya like the Bray clips, you'll absolutely LOVE the amp
*** BTW,THE AMP HAS A PPIMV,WHICH IS HOW I'M USING IT/NO ATTENUATOR USED.
