Interesting...

From TA Weber, owner of Weber Speakers:

With regards to the release of the Legacy Series: There were not any knives involved; however, there were plenty of one-sided backdoor shenanigans, ultimatums, etc. We have many friends in the MI business, friends who loved Ted; they informed us of attempts by this client to get parts, speakers built, etc. One of my employees was even approached regarding a "Plan B" if I didn't comply with certain 'suggestions'.

For approximately 4 years, we provided the entire line of speakers to this client, some of the last of Ted's designs. I feel that the actions/words (of this client) were an indication that the client was moving on (eventually), once they had all of their cogs in place; we simply decided to end our relationship first.

There were never any contracts involved; if you hear otherwise, it is entirely untrue. We have a staunch history here of honesty, integrity and goodwill to our customers, vendors and friends. We firmly believe that we were protecting ourselves from having the rug swept from under us; our designs to be 'borrowed' (which wouldn't be the 1st time).. and all is fair in business (I understand that). I, also, feel that it is fair to protect yourself, your business.

Feel free to post this anywhere you wish; and as a favor to me and Ted, if you hear/read any slander or libel regarding this topic, please inform me so I can advise our legal counsel accordingly.

Most importantly, though, thank you for your support of Weber Speakers !

Best Regards
TA Weber

Very, very interesting...

Weber Speakers is proud to offer Ted Weber's Legacy Series 12 inch speakers. These speakers were some of the last designs Ted worked on, and we have perfected his vision (by not doing anything besides producing the speakers). The 'Legacy' line is similar to a group of speakers that we previously built as a 'turn-key' product for a retailer. We have decided to honor Ted's legacy and exclusively sell these speakers via our website.

30, 40, 50, or 80 oz magnet, 1.75 inch voice coil, 30, 65, or 100 watt. 75Hz or 55Hz cones. Available with standard British dustcap or Large H Screen Dome.

Magnet size: smaller = less efficient, more breakup. larger = more effecient, louder, cleaner (generally).

Power level: always get more power handling than your amp puts out. Amps can generate more power than their 'ratings' indicate. No speaker is indestructible, so bear that in mind before cranking your Marshall amp and wondering why your speakers are blown.

Cone type: 75Hz cone has solid bass, even mids, and good clarity. Your standard "Vintage Marshall" cone. 55Hz cone has deeper bass, a darker voice, and smoother highs. These are great for deep bass notes and creamy tones.

Dustcap type: Standard British = even, clear, good for clean and distorted. Large H Screen Dome = smoother highs, takes the edge off high frenquency distortion. (Great for high gain amps that have too much treble in the distortion)

Doping: Pre-Rola treatment standard.

Saw that on another forum. I am curious how they sound, but not enough to order some yet....

I have four on order as of yesterday.
You're a smart man!
I love the Weber. I've ordered lots since 1999. I used to talk to Ted back then, awesome honest guy.

Let me know how they sound big boy. ;)

This is NOT scumback correct? ( not implying anything negative Jim!)

Based on the descriptions id say these must be scum backs, way too many similarities, though I could still be wrong.

Damn the pics on webers site are identical to the scum back I have here... It must be them, well now they are only $130 for those who want them.

I've loved every speaker I've gotten from them so far. I was thinking of trying the 1225, 1265, or possibly 75W version of the Silver Bell, but I saw the Legacy Series and decided to get some of them. I'm getting this configuration: 30 oz magnet, 16 ohm, standard dustcap, 75 Hz cone, 65W. I figure that will suit the new Vega design quite well.

That's the one I would try as the MC90 is too dark for me with the Electra Dyne. I'd also try it with the Polaris you made me, but I'm really like the MC90 in there, great match.

Who ever "CJ" is/was that posted in TGP thread, is no longer a member...hmmmmm

I hope this is not Jim, and if it is, he has a backup plan.

A quick look and they don't offer the same weight magnet as the m55 or m75, which has a 35oz magnet. It does have a 50oz magnet available like the h55 and h75. Otherwise pretty close.

I'll be curious what they sound like...I have a couple of Weber's and have done cabs for others with them and they were always great sounding.

So these are Scumbacks only about $30 or so cheaper a piece?

They sound awfully close from the descriptions. I hope they aren't, because that would be a pretty raw deal for Jim, but I have yet to see anyone credible confirm or deny it. :dunno:

I just got a Rhodes 2x12 done by Kyle with Weber 1265's in it and my Splawn has never sounded so astonishing! It has filled in the frequencies that were missing from my old Black backs. I am just thrilled with the workmanship and overall tone that these speakers deliver.
