So, which 1x12 cabinet?

I'm thinking of going with a Mesa Thiele with the C90 Celestion although I'm considering all options. Head is a Diezel Einstein 50w. My current cab is a Bogner standard 4x12 which I'm selling as I don't even have a car. Terrific cab but just too big for my current situation.

Also considering Bogner, Cornford and the Egnater. Anything else you guys can recommend?

I'm heavily into the idea of this cab; http://www.andertons.co.uk/ElectricGuitarAmps/pid9053/cid557/Cornford1x12SpeakerCabinBlack.asp although it's £72 more than the Thiele, which is used.

Just my opinion, but I didn't like the C90 in a Thiele...sounded kind of flat compared to an EVM. Although I admit, I'm not a fan of the C90's at all. An Eminence Delta Pro 12a was my favorite in my Thiele cab by far. I'm using a Mark IV by the way.

And unless you're just playing metal, combining that Thiele with a 1x12 open back is the way to go...it really adds more dimension to the sound. I've run an EVM in the 1x12 open back along with the Delta/Pro Thiele cab and it sounds awesome. Cleans and crunch tones really come alive with the open back.

I've got a Boogafunk Thiele on the way.
I had them paint it to match my green Charvel.
The Black Label EV that's going in it arrived today.
Sorry I can't really give you an opinion yet, but it should be here Monday.

I just picked up an open back thiele. Ill let you know how it sounds when it gets here.

I look forward to the opinions. I suppose at the minute it's between the used Thiele, the Bogner Cube and the Cornford OS1x12.

I actually use a mesa open back widebody 1x12 C90 with my Einstein & Shiva & I love it! I had a RR Thiele for years and liked it with my Triaxis rig but I really dig the open back with the Diezel. It let's the amp breath a little & I can hear it better on stage.

Bogner box sounds better than the Mesa box, but Thiele with EVM12L sounds better than Bogner Cube with v30. Actually single v30 doesn't sound good at all with Diezels IMO. With Herbert EVM12L works great, I can't vouch for Einstein though, could be too much low mids. I tend to use mudcut with EVM12Ls. I'd recommend trying a Thiele with EVM. If you like it, get a Bogner Cube & put an EVM in it. Keep in mind that Thiele has no batting in the cab & if I recall it correctly it is front loaded, which means it will be a lot brighter & have more attack & directional. Cube is more 3 dimensional sounding & has that Bogner cab magic in a small size. IMO EVM12L is the only speaker that brings 1x12 to somewhat more or less close to 2x12/4x12 realm.

Good luck!

I thought the term "Thiele" referred to a very specific design (closed back with a port or whatever on the front.)?

Is it really a "Thiele" if it's open back?

Not arguing... I'm really curious.

Thats a Very good point.... I was going to recommend Theile, Earcandy or Port City. So far, Ive been blown away by every Port City cab that he offers..

I would love a Port City but at £550 for a 1x12, it seems a little pricey. Could have a Bogner OS2x12 for £100 more and my Bogner 4x12 was only £799 a year back.

I put an EVM in my Thiele, and I didn't like it at all. Too bright, and focused.

The Theiles do have batting inside them, mine does anyway. The other guitar player in my band has a cube, and they sound really nice, but the theile sounds a lot bigger and more open IMHO.

Were you using it with a Marshall?

My Theile didn't have batting in it. I think I still have pictures of the inside somewhere as a proof.

Mesa MkIIC(+) and a Marshall.

They've probably changed things a few times over the years. Mind did, because I was a little concerned thinking I might light it on fire when I was soldering the wires for the EV. LOL If I remember right, it only had it on a few sides or something.

That's probably why. It sounded bright with Uberschall too. Not with Diezels though.

EVMs in Bogner cabs sound a LOT darker.

Now I use an OS 1x12 Avatar (I put some batting in it myself) with a BL EVM for practice/rehearsal (which happens once in a while) with Herbert. Sound pretty good, definitely good enough for rehearsal. The coolest thing about it is that you can sit on it while you are playing & feel all the vibrations going through your body, an experience worth going through :)

Cool. What is it about a single V30 you dislike with Diezels?

I don't know man, it just sounded all weird & small to me. With Bogner amps it was OK, not great, but I could live with the sound.

BTW, before you even think of trying EVM12Ls, check their weight. If you don't have a car the extra weight might not be worth it.

Yeah, i think you are correct. I dont think it is a thiele actually, it just a mesa 1x12 w/ and evm12l so i called it one. I believe you are right though.

You could check out an Orange 1x12 cab. They are loaded with a V30. I love how mine sounds, although I guess you could say I'm biased towards owning an Orange. ;)
