Would that be a good power amp to use with the Fish tone-wise?
I found one used for pretty cheap. I'm not looking for thin-metal tones,
more AIC-type fatter sounds and diversity.

Mesa 2:90
Marshall 9100/9200/EL34

Or one of Bogner's new power amps if they ever get built.

Even at $500?

I had 2 Fish preamps.
They sounded best with the VHT/Fryette 2/50/2 to my ears.
The preamp didn't have enough balls for the 2/90/2
Also, you can try a Mesa.

You never specified a price range.

Carvin Tube100, I have one, good tubes and biased right, they sound great for the money.

It wasn't necessarily a price range, it's just my friend found one of these for $500 and told me about it.
I have a Fish now and several heads, just no power amp. I've been running the Fish into the back
of my 101B and also tried the Orange Rockerverb 50.

A Soldano power amp for $500. If it works you should jump on it.

Ok, just found out it's a stereo power amp, the "Series II" or "SLS-105" model.
Not that neat high-end mono version. :-|

Bill Sundt told me they sound pretty good. Not build to the standards of the SM100r but the tone is very good.

I paid an insane amount of money for my SM100r. Mainly because I found a Euro version, had it shipped from France and then had a new DeYoung tranny installed by Bill and Mike.

I wouldn't cheap out on the power section, unless you have tried the amp with the Fish and liked it. If it floats your boat the price is unimportant.

I have a few VHT Classics (EL34s) and 2150s (KT88s), a couple Soldano SMRs (6L6 & KT66s) and a Stereo SMR with (EL34s) on the way. Also a Mesa 2/90. They all sound great with the Fish, and have a very different voice. So, it really depends on what you like.

There have been a few 2150s and Mesa 2/90s for pretty cheap for sale in the last few months. I would check them out.

So far Mesa 2:90 for me, the Deep and Modern modes on the power amp can really take the Fish to a different level, I had a Mesa 2:50 and it was nowhere close to the 2:90 with the Fish. I am going to A/B with Pete's (Stratotone) VHT power amp in the near future, but it will be hard to get me off the 2:90 with those modes being switchable and can really add another dimension for me.

I like the thickness and punch of the Rivera Power amps for the Fish.

Whatever you buy, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for a rare used blue VHT power amp. You really need to have color coordination for the best tone.

Ignore Dave. I have a six figure debt thanks to hookas 'n' heliskiing.

;)

VHT 2150 for me. The 2:90 sounds excellent as well but I have both and prefer the 2150 with my Fish.

I would like to find one of them. I have been unsuccessful so far though :-(

Would you consider it "stiff"? What I'm finding is that I would like a little "squish" or "give" in the sound, without it being totally muddy.

I find the 2150 can be 'stiff' compared to the VHT Classic or Soldano SM100r. Which is why I keep mine; it's a dramatic contrast.
