Hopefully less that what he sells them for. :D

people arent paying his bills for him, thats all i know

id say it depends on who he sources his parts from. being he buys in bulk a hell of alot more than anyone else does here, im sure it costs much less than you would think. probably $100 in each transformer since its in bulk, and around $500-650 in parts maximum not including tubes.

Just like all the other guys. $mod for pennies on the dollar but you dont have to buy the amp or send the amp to be modded. It is all a choice. Its called making a living.

On the other hand I really doubt Soldano sells that many new SLO`s now, yeah back in the day but there is alot of competition these days so who knows? Mike Soldano ;)

Transformers are definitely more than $100 a piece. DeYoung doesn't even build audio equipment transformers and continues to make the SLO transformers just for Mike.

Also remember that everyone involved in making the parts for the amp also needs to eat. I'm going to say that they probably run around a grand in parts.

but you dont buy in bulk, do you?

i work around electronics for a living - i know how sourcing parts work. you would be surprised what he could get them for buying them 10 at a time, 20 at a time, etc

Why, think the mark up is too much?

But, if you think about a basic Metro kit, that's $1100 for a flimsy ass aluminum chassis, cheap thin shell, basic transformers, shitty transformer mounts, cheap jacks, cheap pots and fairly basic components, including a stick on front and back plate, complete with not so cohesive adhesive.

Look at Soldano's chassis, aircraft grade and laser etched, superior components, one off transformers, quality constructed head shell, Mil-spec pots and wiring, etc. I would easily say his cost is a little shy of $2000. Add some labor in to assemble the boards and build the amp. You got to figure the retailer has 30%, at least another 30% for Mike. Take a MSRP and 40-50% of that and you will be close.

TBH im in this ballgame here.

what you are paying for is less parts based, more the original design, labor, the transformers, MSRP markup, and wiggle room for mike to pay the bills.

There is a reason he put his name on Jet City. Do I have to keep typing.

yea, way too high, and just terrible of him to introduce the Jet City line! :scared:

oh, the humanity!
