Hey guys, anyone own both or played both? How do they compare? Is the 50/100 watt debate an issue with these too. I'm looking for another SLO but I have heard some awsome MK50 clips. Thanks for the help

These were the top contenders when I was amp hunting two years ago. I actually went to Solidbody and played through a series of Soldano's. I left with the Mk 50 II. To me the Cornford had all the Soldano offered but sounded less "stiff" for lack of better term. Call Solidbody and talk to Wally.

I dug amp this thread since I have never tried a Cornford myself... What do you guys think of the MK50?

I had both half stacks side by side for awhile. The SLO stack was 19 years old and sounded a little less hi-fi. The Cornford was a MK50II and also just sounded great, very very similar to the SLO if thats how you dial it in. The MK50II has 2 amazing loops, clean, and 2nd master where great for gigging so I kept it for a year or so..it seems the key to many of the new expensive amps these days is to dial the bass really low and jack up the mids and boost a little.

i've own an MK50 and still own a MK50 II, and have played an SLO a little.

not sure if the SLO i played had a depth mod? don't think so?

anyways, based on my experience, i'd put the SLO in between the 2 MK's. i'd take an SLO over the MK50, but take an MK50 II over the SLO.

depth mod on an SLO might change things, if the one i played didn't have it?

with the ones i've played, the MK50 is nice but a little dark and needs KT-66's to get mids and crunch. the SLO WAS damned good, but a touch ice picky and short on low end. the MK50 II is perfect!

I've owned both. The MK50 to me is a wanna be SLO. IMO you get better mids and better cut with an SLO. I found the low end mids in the cornford to be a little lacking. A SLO with a depth mod and KT66 is hard to beat and there is no lack of bottom there!

I really liked the MKII I played. Since you have an SLO already I'd try a MKII if you could score a good deal on one. Or if you are running 6L6 or 5881s in your SLO get another and run KT66s in it. Both are pretty great amps and it's hard to compare unless knowing more about your other gear and taste. But you aren't going to go wrong either way.

I run JJ6L6GC in my Mk50 at the moment and love the tones, but I wonder if KT66 would be worth a try. Which KT66s did you guys use in your Mk50s?

I just bought a quad of Gold Lion KT66's for my SLO. If you take care of the shipping you're welcome to try them...
