What's the deal with these? US made Soldano preamp for less than $500? It sounds too good to be true.

I had a USA one for a short time, thought it sounded good, had a Haynes mod.
Sounded Marshallish but that might have had something to do with the el34 powrramp I was using.
There are made in USA and Japan versions. I think the USA are supposed to be more desirable.

They're cool. Typical Soldano type tones. The power amp you run it thru will play a big part in the end result you get. They're a bit noisey. I prefer the Japan version myself.

Don't confuse the SP77 with the X88 or X99. It's a budget model.

That was sort of my question. If it still sounds good, what makes it a budget model compared to the others?
