I believe Mike Soldano is holding back info. We all know this.
The EVH Camp was ready to sue if he really told the true secret inside the amp.

Seen that a year ago.

Actually Dave Friedman has reworked that amp extensively with NOS parts.

He talked about that in the live stream on youtube he did.

That amp was never bone stock for 47 years.

Yeah and 2 nickels rubbed together will get you a pile of Chicken shit.

I read somewhere that eddie had a bank of resistors that he plugged into one of the speaker jacks that made his amp work harder. Is there any truth to that?

This has been posted and talked about before. Yeah.. Soldano, Suhr, Friedman, and a few others saw that amp...many YEARS after it was used to record the first album. We know there was an extra knob on the back, MV maybe? That was during VHII sessions. Maybe a Jose master? Who knows. The only one who does isn't saying. But none of those amp gurus saw the amp in 78. Things can be removed and reversed pretty easily by a good tech.

Guess we are running out of things to talk about because yes indeed, this is not the first time this soldant link has been posted. Yes we get it, more or less stock .... just pushed with pickups, eq, and echoplex. Or.... Mxr distortion plus.

Bogner supposedly returned that amp back to stock back in 1987, long before those other guys got to see it. Bogner said this back in the late 80's early 90's during an interview with him. He said he first met Eddie to do restoration work on some of his old "Marshalls" and also put one "special one back to stock.

In the very beginning Eddie DID say Jose modded his amps. Then he recanted the statement saying he said it to get Jose business........ Kind of like a celebrity who says something and then gets backlash and then recants the original statement. Eddie just didn't want people to have easy access to cop his sound.

Every Jose modded amp I have ever heard cops the Brown sound pretty much dead on.

Such a dead horse right. Jose modded his amps period. Anyone that knows Eddie knows he would have been all for trying out mods. He was all about trying anything to get tone. He's an easy lesson for a Psych profile.
Maybe he had them put back to stock because he had moved on to other tones with endorsements. He didnt want anyone to be able to copy his Jose mods. He should have just put them in a vault. Maybe he still has a few.

Heard a story that Jose and Ed developed an amp that was intended to be Ed's signature amp way before the Peavey deal.

I heard that Jose beat Ed in a game of horse shoes and Ed never talked to him again.

Ed can play just about any amp and still sound like Ed. I personally think the variac thing Mike is talking about in the interview is pretty accurate. Him and Eddie became pretty good friends back in the day when Ed was using Soldanos. Obviously it's not the only thing Ed did to his older Marshalls, he's a modding freak, but it probably did play a role in his early tone with those amps.

I'm sure Ed is worried about people getting his sound from the 70"s..... It would interfere with the sales of the amp he uses now.
