I just picked up a Marshall AVT50 combo to take to blues jams and things like that - it sounds pretty good boosted with my tubescreamer - but man I cranked it and I was getting ghost notes!!! I didn't think that would happen with a solid state amp (pre has a tube, but I don't think that counts). This thing really acts like a tube amp - sounds way better on 10 than 3 and doesn't have that funny solid state power amp distortion when cranked.

If your preamp section has a tube stage in it, then its not entirely SS. If the tube is actually doing something, first thing would be to replace and see if that is the culprit.

its not like most where the tube is easily accessible, you have to physically open up the amp. yeah, great cranked sound though :D

yeah, I knew the tube is buried in there somewhere - I'm sure I can find it!

if it has celestion speakers, i forget which models, some of them will ghost a 5th, i forget if its higher or lower, than the note being played. Only happens when its loud.

Maybe that helps, either way im glad you are cranking your Marshall!
