Hmmm...He says the AxeFx Friedman model is almost identical to the real amp... :checkthisout:

Its my GOTO on the AXE 2 about 90% of the time. It is really close :)

Yeah but that 10% can be huge to me :) Something about the feel they never quite nail with a modeler.

I'll take the 10% hit, AxE has 50+ amps in it!!
Worth the trade off!!

To each their own. I don't care for the feel of the Axe. 50+ amps ain't gonna change that for me.

It's a great tool. I thought it sounded decent on the Deftones' Koi No Yokan album. But, yeah, probably just not for me.

Really couldn't get on with the Axe either. Whatever anyone says, there is a discernible loss of "something" that I couldn't dial out.

I wish I liked it: it's otherwise such a great tool!

Schon algebra:
No amps = less set-up and soundcheck time =
more time at the hotel...chilling...watching sports...fiddlin' wid you bits...taking selfies

That pic will haunt me 'til the end of time
Stop Believin'

Squid, you had to bring up that haunting Schon selfie, didn't ya? Now I can't get that manscaping job out of my head!

Try the Kemper. It's closer to amps than the Axe.

"You play a lot of amps and gear - what keeps the Axe-Fx in your rig?

I’ve been messing around with some other guitar gear out there. I was drawn to the fact that one of the units could profile an amp and capture its sound. In the studio I tried it and captured some amps and thought I had it sounding really great and I recorded some tracks with it. Then I got the Friedman amp and A/B’ed the sounds I was getting against that other unit. Comparing it with the real amp, I thought it sounded like a toy. I was thinking “hmmm…this is really not as good as I thought it was in isolation.

Then I met up with Matt and listened to the amps in the Axe-Fx II next to the Friedman amp. Both the sound and the feel of the Friedman amp were there in the Axe-Fx. The Friedman is a very, very fast amp which I love and the Axe-Fx relates that immediate punch you get from the real amp."

Tell me about it.
I can't listen to new Journey any more as that pic explodes into my vision like a flashback.
I've never heard the term 'manscaping' before. That's some funny stuff.

Good for Neal but his opinion doesn't invalidate the thousands of people in the real that switched from Axe to Kemper.

Cornered?  First off were talking Neal Schon here! A guy who flipped through rigs for just about every tour he's been on since the 80's and a guy who buries his tone in layers of effects. And one doesn't need a source of data when one TALKS to people and sees what they used/use. Let's see in just the past few years all the Diezel guys were happy when Neal was sportin Herberts, then he switched to JVM's, then he switched to Blackstars and he used the Axe for effects only. When he switches to his next rig the Axe will be the old toy.

Let me guess, you're an Axe user who puts a lot of stock in any well know Axe user so you feel better about yourself. Good for you.

Internet 1B: When asked a direct question answer with something other than the direct answer or make up yet another fun fact like you talked to thousands of users who switched personally.

Let me guess, you go in to message threads and make stuff up to make yourself feel important or you're a Kemper user who makes up statistics so you can feel better about yourself. Which is it?

PS: He was running a feed to FOH from the Axe in conjunction with his Blackstar. For a know it all you don't seem to know much. Quick, make up another "Fact". :)

I have neither unit BTW.

IMHO - The points you make are what validates his opinion .... His penchant for flipping gear is almost as legendary as is George Lynch's .... The fact that the Axe-Fx ( first the Ultra and now the II ) has made it through 3 revisions of his rig and it has occupied a larger and larger portion each time, plus the fact that Fractal doesn't furnish free gear or pay their artists speaks volumes ....

As to "whether or not" and "when" the Axe-Fx II gets replaced in his rig ? Well we'll have to wait & see on that one ....

Who asked me a direct question? You're imaginary friend? Are the leader of the Neal Schon message board? Go talk to Kemper users and see how many owned/own an Axe. I bet you tuned in to Neal's Pay per view Wedding.

EDIT. The only internet rule I forgot was, don't feed the trolls.
