As in no matter how hot you think that youtube video of you jamming in your living room may be, working this is a different story.

Outside of the sheer numbers of cool products that you can get exposed to, I think music and playing as a whole was cooler before the internet came along....back when you couldn't wait for the different magazines to come out and to scoure the ads in the back, having to research stuff and it was word of mouth. People tended to keep their mouths shut and just play. You Tube and the internet has created instant experts and and instant rockstars - "he who shall not be mentioned" is a perfect example with his alleged 100,000 Myspace hits / listens of his cover tunes.

Whatever, that's my own rant - and I agree with and appreciate you sharing your perspective Ed. Sounds like your gig gig is turning out to be pretty fun

Man, I couldn't agree more. Strat Packs + Youtube + The Activision Games, sure have made for a whole lot of "Armchair Guitar Hero's"!

Damn, that gives me an idea for a song title or band name! "Armchair Guitar Star"

I just had this subject come up the other day and yes I miss the old days.

i finished working a five day festival run a couple of weeks ago and got to set up some rigs that were unbelievable. but you know what. sunday was a throwback day and we had some acts from the early days of country music on stage. now THAT was country music imho. much to keeping with their roots the rigs were pretty simple.. bassman's.. peavey's and the like... and the tones and musicianship were great too. a massively complicated rig doesn't necessarily make for massively better tone.. imho.

Hey Ed, looking back, did you ever think that this new gig would end up like this? I mean playing the larger venues and running into the kind of musicians you have?

Looking back? I've only done it for a year. :)
But yes I did, that's why I joined that band. When they called me to see whther I'd be interested in auditioning for them I said yes, and then the day before the audition I was about to call them and flake, but decided to see what they got going on, and all their gigs up to that point were like the Brooks+Dunn/Kenny Chesney/Rascal Flats opening hangs. That's when I went..."oops, better go learn the tunes they wanted me to learn."
That said I've been thinking of slowing down. Because my schedule between the new CD, day gig and the Country gig is way outta hand. But then again...money talks.
also, it looks like me self promo is paying off and I really need to spent som time on my own stuff. But again...money talks.
Did I mentioned money talks. :)
Plus in September aside the Huey lewis and Emerson Drive opener gigs in 3000 seaters there is the Clint Black opener at Cheney Stadium which is just about a 20000 seater. And I love those. :)
