So with the other thread about Sambora being kicked out of the BJ tour(whether it's true or not), there were a few comments about comparing Ritchie Sambora to Angus Young. I thought of taking that a step father. I thought it might be fun to compare/contrast these two rock anthems. So here we go:

In your opinion:

Which is the "bigger" rock anthem?
Which would you rather cover?
Which(if any) inspires you more?
Which do you think gets a crowd more energized?
Which will have more lasting power? Which will be likely to be played 100 years from now?
Which song do you like more?

There's also a pole...

For me, "Prayer" and "Dead or Alive" were the songs that made me want to play guitar in the first place. Sambo has always been a guitar hero of mine even though, I think he's been phoning it in for a long time now.

As for the songs, both are rock anthems for sure... going to sporting events and weddings, both songs get played and seem to get the crowds going just the same. Both have incredibly catchy and singable hooks that "everyone" knows.

For me, I honestly can't decide which one is a "bigger" song.

It's a tie. Almost everyone (30 and older lol) knows both.

Which is the "bigger" rock anthem? AC/DC
Which would you rather cover? AC/DC
Which(if any) inspires you more? I don't find either to be particularly inspiring
Which do you think gets a crowd more energized? Tie, although I think Angus out-energizes Richie, whereas Richie is a much better/more rounded player IMO
Which will have more lasting power? Which will be likely to be played 100 years from now? Tie
Which song do you like more? Both well written tunes...neither of which I care if I ever hear again

There's also a pole...

Shook me all night long, no question!!!

Absolutely. Bon Jovi vs. AC/DC? Please.....Bon Jovi loses just about every time. And, "Shook Me All Night Long" is definitely a classic.

I can not belive these results, yes only a few voters but AC/DC over JBJ? Seriously?

No contest Bon Jovi kills them in every catergory minus the Stage Shuffle and more energy.

(Im not really a jbj fan either)

Back In Black is about the best Hard Rock album ever. Nothing Bon Jovi ever did, or will ever do, will come close to that album.

THIS ^

I actually thought that this poll was a joke. Not to trash anyone's opinion, but I just never expect anyone to pick BJ (... *ahem* ...) over AC/DC especially in this forum.

Of the two I think LoaP is the bigger rock anthem, but both songs are terrific. In my mind an anthemic song should tell a bit of a story, and Prayer does that. The lyrics to All Night Long are memorable if a bit immature and pedantic, but perfect for the song. It's not a lesser song because of it's lyrics is what I mean.

In fact, this reminds me that I haven't listened to "Back in Black" in the past 30 minutes, so I am actively correcting that error.

Back in Black is one of the best all around rock albums ever.

BJ has a place as a very popular Teen Vagina oriented pop rock band. That is undeniable. Counting albums sold and comparing them is one thing..

Comparing one band to the other is totally different.

AC/DC - rock icon.

Bon Jovi - pop rock teen chic focused band. And they were great to play to get them young things in a Slippery When Wet mood. No doubt great panty remover material. But no comparison to Hells Bells, Back in Black, Girls Got Rythm.

Apples and oranges.... IMO

Shook me all night long is one of my least favorite AC/DC songs, but I'll take it over any BonJovi.

I think on a forum filled with dudes this will end up being a landslide victory for AC/DC. To be honest, back in the day there were very few fully grown males who were big Bon Jovi fans. I didn't know any. Since the OP said BJ inspired him to play guitar, I'm going to guess he was young teen at that time so he gets a pass. Bon Jovi was just massive with the chicks. Massive. Nothing wrong with that. I would have rather played to a Bon Jovi crowd than an AC/DC crowd, let's put it that way.

And if we were going to a Bon Jovi show back in the day, seeing the band wasn't our main objective. ;)

Regardless of how much they are overplayed, the two songs are absolutely fantastic songs.

Two incredible songs that we will all be hearing for decades to come.

Two great bands, doing two different things though.

At the end of the day, AC/DC will be memorialized as one of, if not the greatest, hard rock bands of all time. They are true icons that many bands will cite as critical influences for their own style. Bon Jovi will simply be remembered as a band that wrote some great tunes during the 80's and 90's. Nothing they did was ground breaking or even differed significantly from what a bunch of other bands were doing during the same time period.

If you disagree with me, it's because you're delusional and just not very intelligent at all. ;)

I really can't help you then. The disease is too deeply entrenched; you're past the point of no return....
