I'm wanting to know about this "magic" pedal that's supposed to "remove the blanket" from your amp. I am putting together a small pedalboard that runs through my effects loop in my 5150 head. I used to have a MXR M109 back in the day, but now I'm wanting something more simple I guess. I know the SS is not an eq per say, but more like a phase corrector that balances out the frequencies. I hear this box can kill mids. I also hear it's the bees knees. Would it be worth checking out? Any Sonic Stomp users here?

I had one for a while, but the novelty factor wore out pretty quick. I, personally, wouldn't reccomend it, although it has it's uses.

i use one in the loop of my Splawn Street Rod, it makes a big difference thats hard to explain the amp sounds great without it but it just gets more alive with the BBE on and its a quick adjustment to add highs or lows on the fly. I recommend the pedal good bang for your buck

RT Answer: Most here will say its evil (in a bad way). Do a quick search and this becomes very apparent.

Reality: buy one from GC. Play it with your rig for a few weeks and you decide. Return it if you don't like it. I like mine with the 5150III.

not a good pedal..your amps fine without it , check your cab

My cab is fine, just loaded it with British V-30's, I just need something to help "clean" up my signal in my loop.

What removes the blanket from your amp is volume. A 5150 certainly shouldn't need the help. Sideshow sales that pedal.

I had the rack version and I liked it with a pre amp and power amp setup. I think it may depend on the amp. Steve K posted that he runs one in the loop of his SLO and it works for him. I say try it and see if it works for you. But yeah, most folks don't like it.

I'm not trying to brighten anything up... maybe add some dimension. Are you able to cut treble with the SS? I know from videos that it can add lows.

I used the 482i for years.....swore by it with all amps.

Switched over to a Graphic EQ pedal in the loop and it was waaaaaaay better and more tweakable.

I bought one years ago and used it a few times in the loop of the tsl 60 i had. I would point the knobs on the bbe (pedal) directly at each other , and turn the mids up on the amp a bit. It just gave it a bit more "modern" sound. Or like a dual rectifier lol. I still have it but never use.it anymore. Its a tool like anything else. Not as usefull as others, but i keep ot just to fart with on occasion..

I like it in the loop of some amps. It does lift the veil, if that is what you are after. Lows are less boom boom and highs are less spiky. Different than an EQ. It does squash the mids somewhat, but you can either compensate with the amps EQ or maybe you want it scooped.

i had one(the 482i) in a few racks over the years,... But learned to live without it.

Less is more. The more gain you use, the less articulate your sound gets.

A 5150 doesn't need a boost pedal..

I use it only when i play at lower volume for home practice. At full volume: try to put your presence at 9 and then adjust your treble at will.

Perhaps an EQ in the loop would yield the results you want.

I think if you feel your 5150 isnt dimensional enough for you Id suggest experimenting with tubes or a different amp. The SS is not a mirical pedal. Not trying to be a jerk.

They make the amp sound great....... if you are playing alone. The SS enhances all of the frequencies that I try to minimize when I am mic'ing a cab. Too much low end and too much high end dont translate well through a mic / FOH system. The soundman is going to cut everything that pedal adds at the console anyway , so I personally say skip it , but to each their own

I def don't need any high end. I have my treble set at 3.5, mids at 5.5, bass at 7, if I have my treble higher that that, it's too much. I think I may throw an eq in the loop.
