sos...my amp turns bad after a year left unplayed

What is the issue? How old is the amp? Could be that the caps are old and since it wasn't played for a year they gave out when you powered it up.

Just like installing new cans on an amp, they should be powered up with a variac to load them with charge. With an amp sitting for a while, the electrolytic caps fully drain and discharge, then get spanked with full DC voltage and fail.

Which amp?

well yeah it was working fine when I last sold my guitar and left nothin...g so l left my amp unplayed thus a year passed I then hook it up yesterday..found no response at all.. check all cables cleaned the contact point for inputs but still unresponsive..did a swap on the output tubes unbiased just for testing so finally it produced kinda very low volume clean signal when my master and volume is at 6 and gain at max signal still undistorted..switch the channel and worst happened the other one has totally no output but with sensitivity when toggle switch is touched or toggled and produced a loud buzz sound... it was a rather new amp and is my first amp which I gotten it about 4 years back... any idea what can I do ? do I need to change a new set of preamp tubes ? thanks

its a fryette 50cl... I was thinking of swaping to clx and I need to have this sold in working condition...anyway thanks for attention...

would I need a set of preamp tube to test if it works? at desperation if this box fail to regain is it ok to set it to mike fortin to have him checked and mod it slightly? am from southeastasia shipping maybe big concern thou...

My trouble shooting skills are pretty bad, but if a cap failed, I think it would smell like hell from the electrolytic fluid. If it's not the output tubes, it's worth trying the preamp tubes to see. Beyond that, I'm clueless.

Pull the chassis and flip it over. You will likely see some capacitor goo at the pin ends of the cans. Preamp tubes won't go bad just sitting idle...normally. But, never say never....

does it means that my caps has gone off ? what are the symptoms ill encounter if a failed caps and a failed preamp? I encountered a reduction of output signal tremendously.. gain knob seems to have no effect while the other channel hasnt woke up...

With what you describe here, it does sound more like a preamp tube. I don't know the tube assignment on that amp. Just grab you a couple of preamp tubes and start replacing them one at a time to find the bad one. If you don't have any tubes, rob some from another amp to do your trouble-shooting.

If it is caps, you will know. Weird shit happens.

First try the obvious like plugging into a different outlet u know works. Did u leave it plugged in while it was sitting?
