Hi Diezeluser!https://www.rig-talk.com/forum/posting.php?mode=post&f=14#

Please can somebody describe the difference in sound of the 2x12 cabs with vintage 30 vs hempcones.

thanks.

Rolf

Hey Diezel men!

Come on! Nobody can explain?

I cannot belive that!
waitin Rolf  :gethim:

I have a pair of brand new hempcones for sale if that tells you anything. I personally much prefer the V30's. The hemps sound really nice for the lower gain stuff but for me with the higher gain they didn't seem to have the walop I wanted in the low end. This is thru a RL Diezel 2x12 cab.

I have heard and played the 2x12 Diezel Box with hemp cones at NAMM 2 weeks ago through a Schmidt. The cab was open in back. Absolut fantastic sound for a vintage player (blues, jazz, classic rock). Perfect for the Schmidt and this was many players opinions, too.

I myself own 2 Diezel 4x12 cabs, one FL with V30s and one RL with all hemp cones (tone tubbies). I have a Schmidt and a Herbert and can switch around.

The hemp cones in my opinion sound much more refined, clearer and brighter. They are my favorite speakers for my settings and play style. We are talking about more presence and overtones and your guitar's character will be totally "exposed".

I loooooove my hempies

Thank you guys for your infos.

Whats about playing the hempcones in a loud Rockband. Is the sound strong enough to come through.
The vintage 30 or greenbacks come through very well. I dont take care for the standalone sound without the band .

Are the hempcones really the right speakers for Hardrock . You need a strong midrange and also a strong bass.

What do you think?

Hello Rolf,

as You mentioned the hemp cones sound good
in the 212R cab with half open back for low
gain style.

They don´t sound very great in the 412R if You
hear it stand alone but are right in a mix or band
situation.

I have a 2x12 Diezel RL closed-back cab with Celestions and the new Diezel Hempcone loaded 2x12 open back cab.
I use them with an Einstein combo and a Schmidt.
While the Celestions have a really good tone, I have come to love the Hempcone ceramics much more. They don't have as sharp a treble edge when the treble is cranked, but have a sweet, natural treble tone and they sound more natural and open to me. I play in a 5 piece rock band and either amp sounds perfect, but I have come to love the Schmidt the best, due in part to the speakers and the sweet tones I get from the Schmidt. They just sound more natural and refined to my ears after trying both speaker cabs.

I might be an acquired taste, but for me it was using both types of speakers and listening to what I got from each type of speaker. As each of us hear things differently, it will depend on the styles, volume, and guitars you try them with, which will lead you to your own conclusions and preferences.

I don't play metal, so I cannot comment on how the hemp speakers react in that situation. However, I totally trust what Peter tells me, and have always loved the amps and speakers he reccomends.

Thanks to Peter and the other guys.

So what I understand is that the hempcones work best in a half opened cab for mid gain sounds.

But I like only closed cabs. And I play my Schmidt channel 2 gain all up for rhythm and Channel 3 for Solo gain 2 a clock.

My main pus are Jeff Beck minihumb. in a strat and Tonezone in a Axis.

So its more highgain than midgain.

Therefore I think vintage 30 or greenback will work better in a closed cab ?

So long Rolf

for hard rock: either all V30s or V30s with either 75s or K100s in an X pattern. i use these & love these. and im playing hard rock for the most part.

The Hempcones sounded awesome @ a lower gain setting. Didnt have the bottom i was needing. But did sound really nice & sweet.

Hi Pauly!

I agree with you. And a 2x12 closed cab with hempcones will not have the bass response like with
the vintage 30 in it. I am used to go with 4x12 cabs which have a good base in deep tones. A 2x12 will
of course have less bassresponse even with vintage 30 but with hemcones I think I will missing some bass.

thanks so much

Rolf

See! That's what happens when you rock out too hard. You lose track of what's goin on around you. Either that or you were thinking about Gazongas. Although, I'm not sure how those would work in an X pattern. Figure that out Pauly and you'll be a better man than all of us!

Weird my hemp cones have a ton of bass and mores low mids. They are in a port city though.

I have been playing modern thrash metal through them with an Einstein. My favorite speaker thus far by long.

ive figured it out...but im not allowed to tell ya...in fear of not being aloud to rock them anymore

I was using an alnico and a ceramic in my 2x12 rear loaded.I talked with the guys in cali and tone tubby likes to go semi open back in their 2x12 cabs.I trien v30/alnico tubby..alnico /ceramic tubby and finally setteled with greenback and v30.Like has been said here ,it's a taste thing.L.o.L. I finally got a str old marshall 4x12 with 2 greenbacks/2v30.I love how str sound, especially when made of qulty material.Oh my bad,I just remebered I ended up with a ceramic tubby and a v30.The v30's are kinda edgy and the ceramic fill in the bass.Good luck.

Hi Diezels and special hi for both Peters!

Now I am a proud user of a 2x12 hempcone cab for my Schmidt after reading your experience.

Very good quality... thanks to P.Stapfer.

Much better sounding as my Marshall 4x12 and H&K 4x12 with greenbacks.

Sounds more open and more soroundsound because of the halfopen back.

All tonefrequences are right for me.

Thanks all hear on the board.

Best cab I ever owned!

Keep on rockin

Rolf
