Is the Floyd blocked or does it float?

It's not blocked but it's not recessed.

So you can pull up on it a step or two?

I wouldn't say that much. It's pretty much resting on the body but you can still pull it up a little bit. I'd guess you could raise it up if you wanted to be able to pull up more on it.
