Question for you speaker guys .
Can you mix successfully a Higher powered Green back like 65 watts with a Vintage 30 type speaker I am talking the Warehouse retro which is a lil darker

The sensitivity is 98 on the GB 100 db on the retro .65 watt green Vs 75 watt Retro ..

What say you ,also the Greens would be on the top of a 412 rRetros bottom

Any thoughts good idea bad idea ???

imo I think that mix would sound bad. But its your amp and tone. Test it out see what you think.

I tried my Retro 30's with a pair of ET-65's and found the Retro's out performed the 65's. No experience with the Webers though.

resurrecting an old thread because I am thinking of this very match. I have a weber legacy 65 watt in my JCM800 combo right now and I was thinking of getting a separate 1x12 cab and loading a WGS retro. I like what i have heard with the retros, nice cut but some thickness. I was hoping this would fill out the sound. Kind of like a greenie/V30 mix which is very popular. Any further experiences?

I think it would be a very good match . Mark Days vid of the Freidman BE into the v30 /Gb mix is about the best sound I have heard.

I like the Legacys they are very cool and warm sounding ,smooth BUT the Retro is a beast .my other guitarist uses my old cab 212 with and Et65 and Retro mix an there is definitly a more aggressive punch to that cab .I may return to my retros or mix as I like the tone of the Webers but in truth I am not sure they are as punchy as the WGS Retro IMO

Exactly, you hit the nail right on the head there.. the weber is a great speaker and it does have highs but it is also very smooth and warm and I need a bit more punch and cut as that is what I like in a speaker. I'm used to my super V's and greenbacks and I really like that mix as well. The Super V's were very underated. Great drunch and top end. Tight tight tight.Guess I've gotten used to the warmth of a greenback type with some cut.

The Weber legacy 65 watters don't sound that much different than v30s IMO. I am currently running two Legacy 65s in a Mesa 212, but before I swapped both of the original v30s, I ran a mix of the two and it sounded great! They're actually quite similar (at least in the Boogie cab which tends to lend its characteristics to the tone, regardless of speakers) and IMO the Legacy is like a smoother, juicier V30. It had the same voicing to an extent, but fixed all the things I don't like about V30s. Try it.
