Speaker recommendations

I've got a Splawn 4x12 with Gov's and Man O War's in it. There is something about the sound that "broadens" the distortion tones of amps I play through it. I've talked to a few others and they've said the MOW is the culprit (some have described it as a loose and flubby speaker?)
What would you recommend for replacements. I'm guessing the Gov's will stay since they are supposed to be more like a V30. I have a Peters Warhawk & Chimera now and play AIC, Stone Sour and heavier modern rock music. I looked up a few other threads andidn't really find too many answers. Maybe Eminence Swamp Thangs or I'd like to look into Warehouse speakers and save some $
I do have an Avatar 4x12 that has G12H30's that I like quite a bit and James Peters has recommended adding V 30's in an x to balance that cab out for some mids (which I haven't tried yet), so maybe something along those lines would work for the Splawn??
 
i've got a full stack of the Splawn Gov/MOW mix and then i've got another stack with Governors and Swamp Thangs.


the only amp i've had that really gets along with the Gov/MOW's is my Mesa Stiletto, and then a VHT CL could be set to be allright.


other than that all the other amps i've tried have gotten along better with the Governors and Swamps, those amps even included the Splawn QR. other amps are Recto, VHT CL, and a couple of Peaveys.


V30's and GT-75's seems to be the most popular Celestion mix, i'm guessing the Gov/Swamp mix is more like 30/75 mix than the Gov/mow? the Swamps have nice bottom and top and kindda scooped mids, so that's probably more like a 75 than the MOW?


no idea which Warehouse would go with the Governors, but might be cool if figure the right ones?
 
Thanks Cap, I paid close attention to what you wrote on another older thread about this. You got me looking into the Swamp Thangs, and if anything the Peters combine a Mesa Mark'ish/VHT tightness with a nice saturation - so I think it would match up well with Gov/Swamps. Where did you get your Swamps at?
 
i got mine from Avatar, but they aren't listing them on thier website anymore. might shoot them an e-mail and see what they can do?


other than that, M123 and maybe MF have some kind of gimmick where they're giving some discount based on how much crap you buy. for just 2 of them, if they do free shipping and a discount might be as good as Avatar?

I have Greenies in my Splawn. Love it.
But they get a bit boomy if you play downtuned/heavy.
 
Warehouse has a "Reaper" coming out in 3 weeks, supposed to be the "G12H-30" equivilant. The V30/H30 is a really good mix so maybe that's an idea. I've been real happy with my Warehouse V30 clone so far. They have clips up now too. Go to the News tab and they have a Reaper clip.
