Hi there fellow Rig talkers... well i was wondering if how many of you guys here would experience a "wont fit in" situation for thicker strings with .56 gauge or .60 gauge sets? i am tending to get down my 7 string for a low tune with sperzel locking tuners but i was adviced that it wont be fitting in for thicker strings that would go well for a low F#

would anyone like to share me his or her experiences? thank you ! :D

I believe I drilled the hole on that tuner out to fit the 60. It wasn't a big deal, the metal is fairly soft. I think I did it while it was on the guitar   No problem

LOL nice one buddy !!! but i didnt wanna risk it eh well would it fit in the .56 gauge then? thanks for your info anyway

I drill em for my artists using seven strings with em. Ive gone as high as .65. just be sure the post that binds the string in place is fully retracted and you'll be fine.

You have to request from Sperzel that you are going to use over-sized strings. Then they will accommodate you. If you try to drill a standard Sperzel machine head that's not the correct way to fix this. They have a special process for this because if you drill out a standard Sperzel machine head you are going to weaken the string pole and over time it will crack through and render the machine head useless.

Call Sperzel. (216-281-6868)

though I agree that if Sperzel will do it for you thats the best plan, I can say I have done this to many guitars and I know many other techs who do the same also and I have never had or heard of an issue with drilling them.

Sperzel has machine heads specifically tailored for over-sized strings. The string post is much thicker.

It's kind of like driving drunk every day, one day you will find some pretty flashing colorful lights in you rear-view...
