According to the Sperzel official website, a locking nut is not needed for a Floyd style guitar if you install their Trim-Lok style tuners. Has anyone tried this? I'm pretty skeptical.

Strange. A locking nut has nothing to do with the tuners on any guitar. It is to keep the strings on the nut and to maintain tuning when using the trem. I have those Sperzel's on several guitars and they are great.

Straight from the Sperzel website:

"This is the ultimate in tuning keys. The locking feature eliminates the need for multiple string wraps, and trem users no longer need a locking nut that deadens string sustain and all annoying Allen screws and wrenches (added weight). Tired of tying strings? This is the answer. This model is proven to hold strings tightly, allowing the guitar to stay in tune to improve playing enjoyment. The Trim-Lok is a mechanical type locking system that can be used on ANY guitar, including non-trem or acoustic."

I rememeber Chris Broderick did away with the locking nut on a floyded Ibanez a while back. I took the looking nut off of my Suhr Modern when I had that too - hate floyds, hate the locking nut - but it worked fine.

My Fender USA Deluxe has them with a roller nut. Not a Floyd but I really like that set up.
