So I'm looking to pair up a 2x12 with my 6x12. I've been keeping my eyes open and found a Splawn on local CL for $350.00 with Eminence Texas Heats. I've never played them but I had a buddy with Krank cabs with them in it and I wasn't overly impressed. I like heavy THICK tone and I don't care about cleans. I'm looking for opinions on the speakers...maybe sound clips? I've listened to the ones on youtube and they seem like very scooped speakers but nothing on youtube came close to my sound.

Thanks,
Jonny Mac

Dark, semi-scooped, grainy, squishy low end, and very ineffecient compared to Celestions (don't be fooled by its dB rating). A good word to describe it would be "smoky".

Definitely.

I had them in a Splawn 2x12. Didn't like them. Put a Splawn small block with a Governor and it kills. Awesome cab.

I've got one in the combo I made. It sounds good with the cleans in that but when I've plugged some of my high gain heads into it, it got stomped by my V30 cab. Not as pronounced.

Don't have any experience with Texas Heats but my Splawn 212 with V30s kills.

Agreed.

The cab itself is great. Based on the amps you have now I would agree the Texas Heats may not be the best selection. My only thought be be - based on your other cabs - would be that if you really wanted a Splawn cab and they have been hard for you to find used would be to maybe swap the heats out with something from one of the 4x12 and then you'd have a tight 212.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll see if he'll sell it unloaded to me. In the experience I've had with other Eminence speakers, I've never been impressed. I'll stick with the Celestions/Webers I have. I'm on a love/hate with V30's so I may consider hitting up Mr. Scumback and see what comes out of that. Again, thanks.

I had an OS Splawn 2x12 cab and I tried lots of different speaker combinations. It never sounded right to me. Always got really boomy. My G-Flex 2x12 always blew it away. The quality of the Splawn cab was SUPER nice though.

I bought a Voodoo 2x12 cab and I love that one! MUCH better than the Splawn or my G-Flex. Very balanced. Never boomy.

I know this thread is old, but I was looking at a Splawn 4x12 with Texas Heats/Swamp Thangs. Not too sure I would grab it based on the posts....I have a Splawn 2x12 with Govnr/Manowar and I love it.
