hey guys,
Say.. for those who own Splawn Cabinets. What speakers combo do you use in it?

I've been thinking of getting a Splawn Slant 412 cabinet to use with my Slant VHT 412.

Anybody have 4 Eminence ManOWar speaker in there? I've seen alot of combo of the ManOWar and Wizard (i believe thats the one).

Any info would help.

Thanks

the emi x pattern was the governor/man o war..I had that combination for about a year..then I switched to greenback reissues...really like those with my amp....

the big block/small block combo sounds massive if you're into that sort of thing...

Sorry guys.. but whats the Big Block / Small Block combo?

See, I've always used cabinets 412 cabinets with only 1 type/model of speaker. Marshall, Mesa, Peavey, VHT, Rivera..

Now obviously with a combo speaker 412 cabinet, you'll have to mic 2 of the speakers to get your sound. no?

the big blocks are the H30 copies made by eminence specifically for scott...the small blocks are the 65 watt copies made by eminence for scott...

you can put a mic on each speaker..or you can mike one or the other, depending on what your mood is

i've got Splawns with the Governor/ Manowar X pattern.

i feel the Governors are a safer all around speaker as far as getting along with deferent amps. feel the Manowars aren't gonna get along with some amps, but can be cool with the right amp.

what amp you got?

what speakers are you used to, and what would you like your Splawn speakers to do that your's don't?

Hey Bro... What's the "EQ" on the Governors and ManOWars like? I've been using the VHT Slant Fatbottom 412 for a while now and I like it. Its pretty tight and aggressive. Keeps clear and doesnt fart with highgain tones at loud volumes. But sometimes I feel that the VHT is a bit more "directional" than other cabients I've used. Its almost as if the sound doesnt "spread" as much. Its pretty powerful and full when standing infront or when you mic the cabinet but when you go to the side, its not heard as much.

Do Splawn cabinets have good sound "spread" when turned up loud?

Cheers

Governors are fairly even for lows, highs, mids, etc. they do pretty good for lows, and guess the are a mid focused speaker without the super screaming highend.

Manowars, not as much lowend as a Governor, and screaming topend. people compare Governors to V30 and Manowar to GT-75.

Splawns are rear loaded and spread pretty good.

Thanks again for the info. The Manowar speaker sounds more likw what I'd use. I always liked the GT-75, but thought it can use tighter and punchier lowend and tad less highend.

Maybe I'll email Scott and see what he has to say or what he suggests.

I have the GOV/MOW combo in mine, as recommended to me by Splawn and I like it a lot. I did try Hellatone 60Ls in it, but they were way too dark for me.

to your ears, can you explain the tone of the each of the GOV and the MOW speakers?

Thanks

Well that's kind of difficult to do since they're both in the same cab together, but the Governor is bright, but not overly so. It seems to break up quickly. I think it's smoother and not as harsh as a Vintage 30. The GOV has a lot of nice mids. The Man-O-War is more scooped and has more bass than the GOV. They make a good combo together IMO.

My amp is a Engl Blackmore, which is a bright amp to begin with, so it took me a while to dial in the right tone with the Splawn cab. At first I had WAY too much bass dialed in and the cab got boomy. Then I started dialing back the bass and I found the sweet spot! Plenty of bass on hand still, but overall it's very balanced.

My Splawn OS 2x12 cab has the open back (fairly small opening) and I'm VERY happy with my clean and high gain tones. I have no GAS at all for any other cab at the moment!! Here are some pics:

When Paige (AmpliFIRE) has his Splawn 4X12 loaded with whatever Eminence speakers come standard, him/Danyeo/& I thought it was the worst sounding cab in his arsenal. The bass was so tight it sounded like there was no bottom. I'd say that was my worse complaint. The Governor/Texas Heat I have in my EarCandy cab right now is not my cup of tea either but, it is "different" sounding. In my opinion, go Celestion for your Splawn cab.

Hhhmmmm....my little Splawn OS 2x12 has plenty of bass. I actually have to roll back on the bass or it gets really boomy. I don't have much experience with 4x12 cabs. I'm a basement hack who plays at lower volume levels, so 2x12 cabs work just fine for me. I wouldn't mind trying a V30/H30 mix in my Splawn cab. That's what I have in my G-Flex 2x12 cab and I like it a lot. But you know how it is, you could go broke trying out different speaker combinations!!
