Looking at getting one of these amps. Both in the same price range. I play all things 80's, old school thrash, and some classic rock. What are you guys opinions that have owned/played these two?

Both are TERRIFIC amps. My opinion is that the Chupacabra is a bit more versatile then the Comp, having owned both. The Chupacabra can cop the old Plexi style stuff a little better, but still RIPS in higher gain applications. If it is just higher gain/no clean stuff, the Comp is great. A very sweet sounding amp.

I'd have a hard time deciding at this point if I were faced with buying one or the other. Hard to go wrong either want though. The Splawn's loop is superior though, and offers a half power mode too, along with some level of switchability

Haven't played the Chupa yet, so I'm only speaking for the Splawn. On the Competition you can switch between the gain levels(gears) and OD1/OD2 with a footswitch. Also, there is no volume drop since there is no diode clipping circuit. Better loop as mentioned and 2 masters. They are both pretty damn versatile for single channel amps, just in different ways.

Which one has better resale value? they are both good amps, if I were buying one I'd pick the one I could recover the most money from if I decided to move on.

I have played both and have looked at the circuits. The Splawn is much closer to a Marshall circuit that the Chupa. Both sound great in different ways. I found that the Chupa is much more forgiving than the Splawn. In the end, I prefer the sound and feel of the Splawn. I own a QR (chubtone's old amp) for that reason. Both are built impeccably. Pick a flavor... enjoy...

I went for a Yeti after reducing my shortlist to either a Streetrod or a Chupa/Yeti.

For live versatility I would have gone for the splawn, for home versatility I went for the Yeti as the Ceritones are priced much lower then the splawns in europe.

I have a friend thats getting ready to sell his Competition. I think he's nuts because it sounds great but he is coming over for me to take pics of it tomorrow. PM me if youre interested.

Both really well made amps I am sure. I own a Splawn Nitro and a Ceriatone 2061x clone. Great stuff in either of these amps but since Scott is here in the states and I think more people know and want the Splawn for flippage value and support of the good ole USA economy get the Splawn. Plus you can sell it to me if you don't like it.

The QuickRod and the Competition aren't really comparable other than name - they don't feel even remotely the same.

I vote for the Competition - every single youtube video using the Competition has me wanting one!!

What is the difference in feel between the Competition and the Quickrod? A friend of mine just sold his Competition, but I've never used/heard a QR in person

Former long time Quick Rod owner here, sold it a short while after my Chewpa showed up...and it was not one of those moves you make and regret later, still very happy with the new amp! You can't go wrong with either one however as both are smokin heads, just different flavors (as fusionbear put it perfectly).

Curious about this as well.
I have a Splawn Street Rod (listed in the classifieds), and I'm not digging the feel/voicing.
Listening to the clips of the chupacabra, I think I would like it much more.
But then, clips and the opinions of others are what led me to the Street Rod.

So, I guess you just have to try them out yourself!

It's Memorial Day, Buy American!! =)

I love my Splawn!
I don't care what day it is.......BUY AMERICAN!

My buddy has a Splawn and I'll admit, I'd easily take one of those over a JCM800.. unless it was one of the earlier models.

Resurrecting this as I'm looking at the Chupa/Yet vs Comp/Promod - both single channels. I use guitar volume for cleans with a little hair, light picking for dynamics. I typically boost leads, so a decent loop just for a solo boost is fine enough. I play in a cover band, mostly doing GNR, COC, Kravitz, Crowes, Zep, Stones, AIC, Pearl Jam, etc. Not modern metal, but I like some kick in the teeth and balls in cut and thump.

I've always been sold on a Splawn, and I would get the latest B+ option. Like the pricepoint and clips of both.

Looking for recent or past experiences with both and a comparison. Cheers!

Haven't played the Splawn. But between the Yeti/Chupa, I'd go with the Yeti. I owned a Chupa. Fantastic amp. But a little bright/harsh at times. And it doesn't really get saturated. It's a very dry amp. But it has a killer mean snarl/growl with the right EQ settings and whatnot. A little loose in the low-end. But for the music you're playing, the Chupa/Yeti would be great. But not sure how it compares to the Splawn.

Cool, thanks FourT6and2. I do like a bit of saturation coming from an EVH 5153. I'll keep digging around.
