My other guitarist just picked up some Ruby KT88-STR's for his Nitro and they sound a TON better than the stock KT88/6550 they shipped with IMO. Still not a bedroom amp, but it gets better tone at a bit more managable volume. Big plus in my book. With the stock tubes his amp sounded best at half power mode because it was too loud to get the goods in full power mode (even at rehersal levels the Nitro sounded restricted). With the Rubys it sounds killer in full power mode and opens up sooner than the old tubes in full power mode.

The tone is a little more grindy too, while keeping all the clarity intact. This may or may not be an improvement to some, but I personally felt the Nitro was a little too clean & could use a little more gain. The additional grind was just what the tone needed IMO. I think swapping out V1 for something a little gainier would be the final piece.

Just thought I'd throw that out there

sounds like good advice

Ruby's, JJ's and SED's are killer in the Nitro (referring to KT88's).

My nitro had Ruby kt88 when I bought it used. Biased at 53mah those tubes are beast.
I was a bit sceptical about ruby tubes because I had a Pair of Ruby 6l6 in my peavey valveking and they sucked.
But in the nitro, it rocks heh
