In my YouTube travels I hit uponvids of the Splawn Nitro.
I never looked twice at Splawn because all that Gear stuff was not for me, BUT, this amp seems to crush in every video. In the A.B vids its slaughtering whatever its put up against.

What's the story on this thing?

Knowing your style Carl I would think a Quickrod or even Superstock might be more up your alley, but who knows you might dig the Nitro no way to know unless you try one.

The Nitro is the most modern voiced of their offerings, more low end and lower mids voicing...

i nitro with EL34Bs will get you into quickrod territory with more gain and saturation

That gear thing is a turn off.
I heard a demo of the Nitro with a Strat and it seems capable of other genres of music besides C-tuned chugging :D

Plus, every A/B vid against the QR, I liked the Nitro better.

Interesting (to me) amp. Might have to further investigate
What don't you like about the gears? With my Quickrod, it's simply a voicing/gain structure switch.

I had one with the KT77's for a few days. I found the youtube clips to be a very good representation of the sound; it has this certain something in the low-mids that is always present. It's got a huge, punchy low-end. Actually more puncy than any amp I've played/owned. It can get out of control if not dialed in right, but it's not really a hard amp to dial in anyway. It's also very tight. You adjust this to a degree with the resonance, but in general it's a tight amp. As you can probably tell from the clips it has more of that clean gain thing going on. It saturates, but not even close to saturating like a diezel or cameron marshall. It's also not overly compressed like many high gainers, so its got a nice open, articulate tone. In general the amp is pretty modern sounding. Mainly due to the low-mids and the punchy low end. It really excells for fast speed picking, palm mutes, and open, articulate chord work with gain slapped on. On paper it sounds like "my" dream amp, but it wasn't so.

I ended up selling it because I like a little more saturation and I just didn't find the tone or feel very "inspiring". I got bored playing it really quick. Also, I didn't find the amp very versatile. It's not a one trick pony and can do more than the C-tuned chugging ;) , but I found myself dialing it in for a particular axe and leaving it there. One final word of caution: It is ridiculously loud! The master volume is lacking IMO. It goes from 0 to 60 in a heart beat, and anything in between I found to be pretty fizzy. Before I tried one someone told me don't bother unless you're in a band (at the time I wasn't), but I figured it was manageble. Nope. You need an eq of sorts in the loop to drive the power section hard while keeping the overall volume down (I did this and it works pretty well) or an attenuator to get good tones that are also bedroom friendly.

It wasn't really my thing, but you may dig it. Plus there is no denying the Nitro's abilitly to lay on the hurt for a tight, clear, punchy, pissed off tone.

Hope that helps.

Don't let the gears intimidate you, or give you a reason to shy away. If you absolutely hate gears and the idea of them take comfort in the fact the nitro and the superstock neither have gears :) yes the nitros crush!

oh yes, I heard that one a couple weeks ago. Pretty cool!

I've been rehearsing with the SuperComp . First show with it Tonight .
The mode switch is nice . You can have that low/low mid boost or a higher mid tone . I prefer the higher mid mode . The resonance dial is different too . With it all the way off the tone gains lotsa mids and tightens it up tremendously .
