Quickrod looks like a great amp and the solo boost feature is something I could seriously use. I don't play much metal anymore, mostly classic/hard rock stuff, and some blues rock stuff when needed. I don't know much about Splawn amps or this particular model but have seen some good, and some bad, comments floating around.

Educate me on the Quick Rod.

Sorry but I can't tell you ANYTHING about this amp.

Thanks dick. ;)

LOL! :D
Ask away... I've had experiences with different models.
The only drawbacks I can tell you is that
1) The FX loop is the most fancy. Still sounds good but it's not as sophisticated.
2) It's loud and needs to be cranked, BUT there are ways around that. The new ones have a special feature that helps you do just that. The old ones require outboard gear.

People sometimes complain about these amps because they're REALLY unforgiving. I mean REALLY! LOL! :D
If you fuck up, everyone will hear it because you'll drown out just about everyone on stage with you... LOL! :D

Solo boost... It goes from loud to stupid loud with the press of a button! LOL! :D
Good feature if you're playing out... I only play in Madison Squar Basement so I don't use it. Unless I feel like scaring the shit out of everyone in a 5 mile radius.

What else do you want to know? It basically sounds like a 2203 with a really really bad case of PMS! LOL! :D
I dig that amp ALOT.
I seriously recommend a matching Splawn cab with SB25's. Really makes the amp shine.

Here's a thread with a clip I did

You've got to play a Splawn before you buy, lesson i learned recently. The only Splawn i really liked was the Nitro but it was boosted with a Tube Screamer. I really did like the tone i was hearing from that amp.

This whole mid thing........yes IMHO there is something to it. It's not that the mids are wierd, it's as if there's an internal knob set on 11 that you can't lower. At least, that's what the Street Rod sounded like and the Quick Rod when i played it. I didn't get that from the Nitro though.

One positive is the volume control in the loop works pretty well for lower volumes. But from my experiences Fortin, Friedman's, and Camerons are a step above the Quick Rod for a modded Marshall tone, for me. YMMV.

Maybe.

I would love to have a Fortin, but I don't think he is doing mods anymore and I got nothing to send in for him at the moment. I need a 2 channel head with separate eq's on each channel, crunch and crunchier with a loop, 50 watts or 100 watts with half power switch, added foot switchable solo boost that would work on whatever channel is activated would kick ass. Is that too much to ask for at a reasonable price?

Ah yes, the always controversial Quickrod midrange.

On a sidenote I heard that Scott was softening up the mids on newer Quickrods, can anyone verify that.

He's calling them "Limp mids" now
Instead of "Weird mids"

Curt makes em sound freaking awesome, all I know.

My boy just blows the roof off

Tweed, serioulsy, you'll need to play the amp. Like every other amp... AND I MEAN EVERY AMP... you need to play it 1st hand.

If Satan approved his amps they'd sound better? I tried covering up the John 3:16 with this but it didn't work.

I laughed.

you do need to play one.

i have played many many shares of modded marshalls and stock ones in this area of TN/SC/NC. of all the quickrods i have played, they are fucking loud. rediculously loud. i have a 5150 II so i am no noob to volume, but the splawns would blow it out of the water. thats how loud they are.

to me they didnt have any mid problems, but there is SOMETHING cocked to 11 inside the design that makes it ice-picky at low volumes in my experience playing them, and you would need a hotplate to get the poweramp side working to smooth things out.

i have played a QR I, and two QR II's - a newer one and an older one. i still prefer standard marshalls. scott does great work and the amplifiers are top knotch - but its just complete insanity on one level or another.

you just literally need to play one to understand. maybe its for you, maybe its not.

Up to now, I've owned 4 QR's ...... all the older 3 pre tube models. They are good bang for the buck but I have one beef with them and that's hum & noise. I find them extremely noisy to the point where at times they were unusable with a single coil guitar at some gigs. They are better in 2nd gear but in 3rd gear, if you don't have really clean power they hum big time.
