Splawn Quickrod...or not?

So I've been on a Splawn kick lately, originally liked the Bogner 20th Shiva, but now I'm really diggin' the Splawn. They have a really awesome "Marshall-esque" tone to them. I was talking it over with my friend and he mentioned how big they were. I really don't want to lug around a huge head all the time...but I would if I had to.

That being said, are there any "alternatives" to a Splawn that have a smaller frame?

Also, should I still consider the Shiva? I know they have different tones...but they both sound really awesome.

IMO: Quickrod>>>Shiva

Two different animals, but I'm not a fan of the Shiva. It's way dark for my tastes...

Awesome, thanks...they are definitely two very different amps. I just need to figure out what kind of sound I really want I guess.

The QR nails the marshall tone of legend. gear 1 is like a bray moded plexi, 2 is like a jose' jcm 800 and gear 3 is like the tim caswell (slash) mod. Gear 1 will get you classic rock, 2 is the 80's hair band thing and 3 is good for 90's stuff.

my splawn isn't too big either.

A Splawn head is the same size that 100 watt heads have been since 1966.

I don't see what the big deal is.

Like a lot of Marshalls it is a bit lop-sided weight wise but that is just because the transformers are where they should be me thinks.

But buy an amp based on liking the tone...not the weight.

what he said. well.. the reason I sold my Randall RM100 combo was because it weighed 120 pounds. the splawn comes nowhere close to that though.

Isn't the Street Rod head more like a Shiva, looks and size wise?

I think the Street Rod is a 40 watt version of the Qr

aware of that, but the OP was referring to the size of the QR head being an issue ...

The Splawn QR is an awesome amp. Great tones ... I don't think they headshell is any bigger than a Marshall JCM800.

The headshell is identical to my old Marshall Super Lead in size.

Awesome guys, thanks for all the input.

For some reason I was lead to believe that the QR was this huge beast of an amp, but I guess I was mislead.

Nope... it's the size of a Marshall... :)

BTW, I love mine to death. One thing I would strongly recommend is a Splawn 4x12 with SB25's

I don't need a 4X12 right now, its kinda overkill for me. I figured I would just grab one of his 2X12's for the time being.

F'IN WUSS!!
Man up and carry a kick ass amp!
Unless you're a Midget.
It's lighter than a Diezel, Engl, VHT
Bogner etc....

HAHA, don't go easy on me now!

I don't mind carrying an awesome amp around...especially when I can turn it on, play a chord, and kill people with the awesomeness of the sound!

Go Hard or Go Home!!
Seriously, for the price, the Splawn delivers.
A Friedman Marsha would be better, but there
is a substantial price difference.
