So, this is my setup right now (pictured).

I don’t like the LBX. Just not my cup.

I had a 2017 Quick Rod 100 before and regret getting rid of it. I’m going to go Splawn again.

I want to go smaller. Something that’ll tackle any gig, but do home practice use too. Should the Super Sport work just fine, or should I go Street Rod?

Do you think either one of these will pair well with my EVH cab? It’s stock.

Both the SS and SR are just lower wattage Quick Rods, right?

Super Sport with EL34's. Get it in white in the small headshell!

Will it tackle any gig and make my girlfriend orgasm in the bedroom too?

This. Super Sport with EL34's in the small headshell. 50 watts and will smoke any lunchbox amp on the market ( I think I had them all). Loud as hell and sounds good at whisper volumes using the loop volume control.

You think it’ll pair good with the EVH 212?

I hate you guys. The Bushido Code guys got Super Sports I think with KT88 and fully loaded. At least that was a post I saw awhile back ... drool..

I've been wanting to downsize from the JJ100. I don't play clean (maybe dirty clean with lower gain and volume knob) and I like smaller heads these days (weight is fine). QUESTION: will the 50w SS PUNCH like any other 50w head, maybe more since it's a Splawn?

I wonder if it's the same 50w trannies that are in the Competitions, 50w QR's, and other 50w heads. Otherwise, I'd just try to go Comp in a mini head.

The only difference I know of, is the compact size. Any 50 watt Splawn will makes your ears bleed, no doubt about it.

With the loop volume, it'll blow the doors off that LBX, and sound better at low volumes.

That LBX is no low volume amp. I bought one, thinking it would be great for low volumes, but the master went from zero to loud in a heartbeat. I'd take the 50 watt EVH over it, any day. WAY better MV taper. The LBX is just another low watt, loud as hell amp with zero headroom. I flipped it after about 3 days.

It should sound good with the EVH 2x12. Goes good with Greanback,Creambacks ect. It punches hard. The one thing most mini heads lack is punch. This def. has it. I have the EL34 Nitro Super Sport. It has Nitro mode , which I never use and Quick Rod mode which sounds just like my 100 watt QR. It has a lot of bass, if you want it and a TON of gain. More gain than any Splawn I've played before.

...Hmmm...This has me thinking. I really only used Gear 1 and 2 when I had my Pro Stock. I'd be looking at the mini 50w SS to replace my JJ100. So if it punches hard for 50w, that can rival some 100w, which who's cranking 100w's at gigs much these days, then it might be a winner.

I also agree that the EVH 50w was much better in the MV department than the LBX's.

I had a Super Sport with 6V6 and it had HUGE balls for the wattage. I played it through a Mesa 2x12 vert cab. It was like a JCM800 & a Dual Recto had a baby. A SS with EL34 or (OMG) KT88 would be wicked!

I know your original post says you want an amp that's smaller that can tackle any gig. The 50 Watt super sport absolutely does this. HOWEVER, like any Splawn, low volumes just really don't sound right with it.

My other guitarist and I recently got matching 50 Watt KT88 Super Sports in the small headshell, and there ain't nothin small about the sound. They actually have to be LOUDER than our 100 Watters to really open up, which makes no sense to me, but whatever. I bought it to play loud.

Speaking of, in my experience bigger wattage heads sound better at low volume than lower wattage heads. (Assuming there's a volume taper that actually tapers..) They just have more body.

That said for the OP if you don't have a super loud drummer I think you'd do well with a 6V6 Super Sport.

Interesting about it needing to be louder than the 100w! It prolly makes sense for me to get a 100w in a smaller headshell. I wonder if Scott can do that.

I have a 100 watter and a 50 watter and I think they both sound amazing at low volume.

I’m sold on the EL34 SS in lunchbox headshell. Gonna be ordering one soon. Classic 800 styling.

Love my EL34 SS in the mini headshell

Not played the SS but what you are saying makes sense to me. PS: I run my QR at 1/2 power 100% of the time. I run a separate loop volume control.

Post some of your clips please.
