A lot of techs don't like working with them, since they wear out standard fret files in one sitting.

I'm not 100% sure, but i think i read that you have to use diamond fret files when working on SS frets!

Yes, he did mention this as well!

Only two downsides to SS frets:

Cost
Harder to work with

Yep...but if you do it right...it only needs to be done once.

To me that's worth the price of admission.

I talked to a custom guitar builder and he hates them. Does not recommend them. Can't remember why, something about construction.

Yeah, I heard the same thing from another builder. He says the negative is that ss still needs to be occassionally re-dressed due to changes in the wood.

Yes, this is another problem.

I really doubt there is any tonal differences myself. If you liek the smooth, fresh polished feel and frets that wont wear out I don't know why anyone would NOT want them :)

I ordered a bunch of Musikraft neck and only went stainless on the last one....wish I could go back in time and get em all in stainless :)

Are you better off with a Rosewood Board with stainless compared to Ebony Fingerboard because Ebony can move more and cause fret "sprouting" or whatever it's called when the frets lose conformity to the fingerboard ?

What are you guys talking about? I have 19 guitars now and have never had a fret pop up or out.

SS frets on two Suhrs and if I could avoid it, I would never go back to Nickel. They're so very smooth, never wear, never get dirty and 'cloudy' looking and need cleaning like nickel. I don't notice a massive difference in tone personally, and If it is there, it's not very much.

They're killer and well worth it.

Heck, I don't know. I was just stating what a custom guitar builder told me. I did say this.

I know nothing about them personally.
