Yeah, it was in 1994, so still pretty-new to Music Man after leaving Valley Arts.

They'd already gigged heaps with Jeff Porcaro in the seat. This was a couple 'o years later after Simon Phillips replaced Jeff.

Jeff would have signed off on Simon too. Tons of mutual respect with those two.
Must have so been hard the first couple rehearsals and gigs!

Indeed.

I actually saw Toto on that tour when they came to Melbourne. It was about to start when Jeff died so Simon was forced to make a snap decision to fly over to the States and join the band.

He cancelled all the sessions he had booked and took off. Apparently everyone understood and nobody questioned his cancellations. They would've been like, "Brah, it's Toto!".

IIRC it was a tour-only arrangement initially but he fit in so well it was a no-brainer to make it permanent.

Funny, Toto was like the 1960's, Wrecking Crew, in terms of playing jingles, on others people's records, movie sound tracks and other session work.

I wonder if Steve still hangs out and jams at LA's Baked Potato Club ?

Dunno mate, but he apparently gets along well with everyone so he'd still hang out with those cats.

Think that's David Garfield on keyboards; I seem to remember Luke had a bad split with that guy over some music dealings.
