Well I am starting my first pedal build today. It's gonna be a tubescreamer clone. I will post pics as I go. If any of you see anything wrong or suggestions as I do this please feel free to comment!

thanks!

Anything wrong? It ain't green! haha just kidding man. Good luck!

• Take your time
• Dont' use a soldering iron thats too beefy for the job (15W pencil point is great for PCB work)
• Clean the tip often
• Make sure the solder melts fast and clean on the connections.
• Don't overheat; it might damage the component

What nick said, and read the directions and follow them, and youll be fine,!

That kinda looks like fun. I'm getting one. Where did you get yours? BYOC?

Do these come with schematic or just instructions? It looks cool, but I would rather build without the pcb and wire it myself on breadboard or something.

There is a PDF that you get from the BYOC site and it's step by step instructions with pictures and diagrams.

I'm really been thinking about getting one of those BYOC kits myself. I was going to do their "mouse" Rat clone. Let me know how it comes out. Do you have an original tube screamer to compare it to?

I don't but I am pretty sure a buddy has one. Will compare!

I have been seriously considering doing this. I want to get to the point where I fully understand what's going on. Perhaps build my own original pedal someday.

Very cool, good luck

Looking good, the only thing I would like to see would be better penetration of the solder into the PCB bosses. You can see on several of your components where the solder is visible from the top view of the board. I like to see solder on all of my connections like that. What watt iron are you using?

15watt.

are you talking about soldering on top rather than the bottom of the PCB?

do you have any pics of your builds? I'd like to see

Sorry, I don't have any detailed pics.

I solder from the bottom letting enough flow into the PCB to see solder from the top side. You should invest in a hotter iron (25-30 watt range). A couple of your solder joints look "cold", like they didn't flow well. That will cause you problems later if the connection is not stable.

Cool. But, why not just buy a Tubescreamer pedal and be done with it?

I'm bummed that BYOC switched to all "top mounted" jacks on their enclosures. I dunno. I feel like it should be an option.

Top mounted jacks give me the willies.
