Starting first pedal build!

I bought a Weller soldering gun a while back, and it has made my soldering life so much easier. I'd recommend the gun style irons. I'll never go back to the pencil style again.

I used to go through Radio Shack irons like they were solder. At least move up to a 45 watter. Your solder joints will thank you.

Looking good, the only thing I would like to see would be better penetration of the solder into the PCB bosses. You can see on several of your components where the solder is visible from the top view of the board. I like to see solder on all of my connections like that. What watt iron are you using?

15watt.

are you talking about soldering on top rather than the bottom of the PCB?

do you have any pics of your builds? I'd like to see

Sorry, I don't have any detailed pics.

I solder from the bottom letting enough flow into the PCB to see solder from the top side. You should invest in a hotter iron (25-30 watt range). A couple of your solder joints look "cold", like they didn't flow well. That will cause you problems later if the connection is not stable.

If you have to, you can solder on the component side. It is important that the plated through hole on the PCB has solder. Make sure the solder connection looks shinny. Keep going, you will get it. I have build 3 BYOC pedals and they are all turned out well (Blues overdrive, Tribooster, Leeds Fuzz). For me its the painting that I don't like, I wish they provided pre-painted enclosures.

Here's a great source for pre-finished enclosures at very good prices. I've bought parts from them before with no problems.

When looking at these pages below, reference the side bar and move between the different options and colors.

Nice, looking forward to that comparison. I have the Maxon OD-9 and OD-808.

For my BYOC pedals, I just used a label maker to label the controls. On my Bluesbreaker clone, the volume and gain knobs were reversed compared to my Maxon tubescreamers, it threw me off a few times before I got it labeled...

BYOC makes very nice stuff.

Here's my BYOC Phaser I built with BYOC's fully loaded options.

A fellow member on the BYOC forums. I had the Eddie and Jimi pics already, he helped with the additional artwork by going back and forth thru emails.

I printed the image on some clear sheets with my deskjet printer, clear it over to protect the ink, then applied it to the case. Once applied I clear coat, sanded and polished the box.

Click the link in my sig to get the details.
