Any of you guys have any experience with Steinberger guitars? As a Johnnie Winter fan, I'v always like the look of them. It would have to be awesome for me to put down the tele tho.

No, but I've been kind of jonesing for one lately myself. One of the realy small ones that I could use as a travel guitar.

They're not Steinberger's, they're Erelewine guitars.

I was just about to post that

That said I've got a custom Steinberger M that's HSS with the graphite neck and transtrem with a limba body with a thick maple top that I love. The neck is nice and round, the only thing I wish for are slightly larger frets.

I had a Steinberger GM in the past. It's the strat style body one w/ the graphite headless neck and Transtrem.

It was a guitar I put together w/ all the parts around 1999. It was a fun little guitar, but I never really dug the sound out of it. It had no oomph.
Had a very distinct sound due to the graphite and huge tremolo.

But what bothered me the most was the strings. You had to have the transtrem intonated PERFECTLY for it to work right. Luckily, I had access to a strobe tuner.

The high E strings wore out very quickly when using the transtrem and you really need to replace them with calibrated string sets. It's
not like you can go to the store and get calibrated double ball end string singles - you had to buy the ridiculously expensive packs.

My interest was the later Halen stuff - after I got my fill of playing Me Wise Magic, Summer Nights, Pleasure Dome, etc. I sold it and never looked back.
