I'm just getting into SS right now. My band plays Rebel Yell (Super fun song to preform BTW) at the midnight hour during our shows
His level of skill and playing often goes on recognized/over looked. Which is a shame.

Many men will not approve of Steve's captain caveman treatment of that nice LP custom, he could have seriously scratched it thus reducing it's value.

A true Baird man would not approve
What about this one, ok to scratch it..

S Stevens Is just a great guitarist who has it all, he can do the shredder stuff but he can actually make it musical. U remember Steve's licks and solos because of that. His early work with idol is my favorite. I saw ss with idol live and I was blown away. They actually did a few gen x songs which was cool. Dancing with myself Is aCtually Steve jones of the sex pistols playing and a great tune.

That white one is off the hook! When did you score that?

No shit, when Steve was using true CS built guitars  I also love the one he has in Don't Need a Gun with the setneck. I laughed my ass off when I scored my Diablo for $400 with a brazilian fretboard which I can give a crap about but some pay huge money for that. One of the best pure shredders I have.

This ain't Bing Crosby:

It could use a little "White Wedding" style SS guitar, though

Hey you Rig Talkers, Pete Thorn here...

this thread is timely, as I'm lucky enough to be headed to NYC tomorrow to join my buddy Steve Stevens, Sebastian Bach, Anton Fig, and Neil Jason for 3 nights of shows at The Iridium (close to Times Square). Come on out and see us tear the place up! Going to be a blast....

great news Pete!

i just hooked up with Steves 2 solo CDs and the atomic playboys off itunes.i am kinda mesmerized. guess i was just closed-minded.really digging his tunes.

pass it on that he's got a new fanboi!lol.

enjoy the shows!best of luck to all of yas!

Only thing that will ever come to mind when I hear the name.

I always thought he was good, but after getting the BLS I realized just how good. He does his own thing and has mighty chops.

I'm a fan. i actualy had just talked to him via email because he has a Framus Cobra for sale i was hoping to get (found a dragon modified to cobra specs instead) but, he wanted more than i had unfortunately. he was very nice. I had told him i was a fan and he offered to autograph the amp for me too....wish i'd had the money. only downside is i wouldn't want ot use the amp live had he signed it:lol:

Thanks Rupe! I'll do a thread about the SS-3 soon.
The Iridium shows are Friday the 27th and Sat the 28th.
The Sat shows will be webcast. Go to www.iridiumlive.com showtimes 8pm and 10pm
Cool that Pete Thorn will be there, a reprise of the killer Tone Merchants show from last year!!

I bought this thinking it would be kick ass, but was not impressed with it overall. Yea there are some kick ass songs on it, but generally its not what I would call his best work. I like the BLS and solo stuff so much better.

I'm with you...there's been better stuff since. Where I'm coming from is all we had was the Billy Idol material up until that point...this was the first time we heard him really cut loose. There are definitely some duds on the album but for the most part the playing kicked ass.

He's an incredible musician and seems like a great guy.. but i have said this before and I'll say it again, he always did himself up like a chick and now he looks like a cougar. Why all the make up and crazy hair? Just have long hair and rock it normally. I can't be the only guy thinking that. Might be time for a bit of an image change for him. I promise i won't say it again! :)

y'know, this was my perspective too, judging a book by its cover.i wouldn't have looked much different if i was in that position in that time and era.the only Idol song i liked was "white wedding".anything else sure got the channel or station changed.
lumped SS into the all hair,no substance category.but now looking back,he plays some cool shit.my bad.

Atomic Playboys he really lets loose.some songs good, some bad.but playing is great.tones are kinda dated sounding as of course they should sound being 20 something yrs later.but i like the recklessness i hear on there.the song "action" just sounds so much like "SWEET" to me.i love it.

i do prefer his solo and BLS stuff too.looking fwd to hearing the recorded tones of the SS amp and what tunes he'll come up with.

SS rocks!
