I haven't really tried the HRD50 but would it be a good trade for my Stiletto Ace? Any advice will be very much appreciated. It's just I don't use the Ace that much lately.

I think it's a good trade. Just think of the Hot Rod as better Stiletto, but the proof will be in when you try them out side by side like I did. Ace was good but the Soldano was better. Actually I compared the single channel 50w Avenger, not the Hot Rod ...

Nice to have the switching options of the Mesa but the tone of the Soldano won it for me.

Good luck!!

Is your Ace a head or combo? I don't think it's a fair trade for an even swap since i have seen the Soldano Hot Rod's selling for cheaper than the Ace.

I have a Combo. Is that so? I was thinking both sells around $1200ish.
But thanks for the heads up.

I've seen those Hot Rod sell for under $1000. I think one sold on Ebay recently.

Thats a really tough call. If you like the Soldano tone then go for it.

Personally...I'd keep the Stiletto

I know. I think I'm going to hold off the deal on it for the meantime.

Thanks guys!

ACE clip (what I remember the Ace sounding like; buzzy):

...no thanks  :emofag: :grim:

(new vid) Hot Rod+ (with G12T75's, Greenbacks would give a bit of sizzle which some guys like--listen at 1:00 min in to directly compare the OD to the Mesa Ace; this guy is getting the Soldano tone...Mesa just won't do this at all)

no contest IMO  :m17:

sorry to bump this again but I was doing some surfing on youtube and just want to give you some direct vids that show what I think is pretty evident in these videos: Hot Rod+ > Mesa ACE

Sorry if i come off harsh, but your comparison is absolutely ridiculous. To go and surf for the worst Ace video clip you could possibly find and claim that's how it really sounds is just silly. First of all, you're comparing a 1x12 combo to a head on a 4x12.

Why not post some other videos of Stiletto's and Ace amps?

These 2 are of the Deuce, but that's probably a better comparison to your Soldano since they're both heads on 4x12's.

And here's the 1x12 combo that sounds pretty decent.

And why not some Andy Timmons to boot.

And why not some Bruce Bouillet playing the combo Ace with Paul Gilbert.

Do you still think it's pretty evident?

Well... he would be trading for a head so ...

The first clip you posted is boosted by a Sparkle Drive (whatever that is)and has some delay and pitch shifter in the loop as well...not really just the tone of the amp as I posted; it does sound good though :)

Timmons uses a "tube driver" into the clean channel of the Stiletto, doesn't even use the OD channel ...so...

The other clips just don't sound as good ( not even close; at the risk of sounding harsh as well; cheers) as the Soldano's to me.

Peace.

edit: just watched the last vid you posted of the harmonized shredding/Gilbert thing...meh...hard to tell anything about an amp with that type of playing I'd say.

I still think it is evident.

I guess we just disagree. To me the Deuce II is the best of this bunch.

That's cool!

Love your LP btw

I'll bet it would sound killer through a Soldano

Maybe if someone else played it. I don't mind hearing others play on Soldanos but i never liked playing on one myself. And the SLO was my least favorite. It's like not having a taste for apples and you really like your Oranges. I never played an Avenger though. The clips of that amp were some of the best I've heard from a Soldano amp. And the price for that amp is pretty damm good.
