Went to STP in Chicago @ the Charter One Pavillion on Northerly Island(5-22-08). Great show. The show opened with an area marching band, which I thought was a pretty cool thing to do(especially for the high school students). The marching band was really good.

Great place to see a show, right on the lake with the city of Chicago lit up as the background behind the stage. It was kinda cold with the wind off the lake this early in the concert season, but not unbearable by any means. We had tickets in section 314 which was Roberts side of the stage. Our row was 2nd from last all the way at the top. Still could see pretty good and the sound was decent up there.

Our section was super lame Everyone was sitting down the whole time we were up there. My fiancee and me and maybe 2 other people were standing. I understand some people want seats to be able to sit, blah, blah, blah. But, this is a ROCK concert! To me its kind of an insult to the band, unless you pysically can't stand up that long. They performed really well.

Dean had some guitar issues(cutting out) on the opening song(Big Empty). The rest of the band messed around playing some James Brown while they were fixing it.
Robert's vocal mic should have been louder, that was really the only sound issue I had. The only song that sounded "not quite right" to me was "Big Bang Baby" - alot of it was that Robert was doing the falsetto(sp?) vocal hamony and it just wasn't loud enough in the mix to sound normal. There's alot of doubling vocals going on in that tune on the album.

The light show was average, nothing too special. They should have had the side screens turned on though. I felt anyone on the side was missing out visually on the show. The Best STP light show was the GIANT lava lamps from the Purple tour in '94. That was super cool.

The band was really tight especially for being the 1st week of the tour. If you've seen bands multiple times on one tour, things always tighten up as the tour goes on. But everything was solid. Tones were really, really good. Dean lead tones sounded great. I wish I could have seen into the racks better. All I could see gear wise was 2 Ampeg 8-10's and a Vox AC30 and one Marshall 412. Everyone was is really good form, Scott sounded good - sounded and appeared to be dead sober. Not quite as animated as some other times but good.

So, since everyone was so lame in our section, we decided(as we were getting a few more beers) we would try and get into the SRO floor area. This was about 5 songs into the set. We had been watching and they were pretty much checking everyones tickets. But we walked through like we were supposed to be there and no one asked or said a word to us
From this point on we had an absolute blast. MUCH better being at stage level where people were having a good time. It was pretty laid back. Not packed like sardines. Everyone was friendly and just having fun. Maybe due to the fact that the STP crowd is probably mostly into their 30's & 40's now? By the last 4 songs we had slowly and politely made our to about 4 people from the front of the stage. Scott came out and was being held by the audience for one of the last songs. All in all, an awesome show and we had a great time

I had tickets to go to that show, and didn't get to go!

Sounds like a blast man! They're one of my favorite bands ever.

I really like STP as a whole, mostly because the DeLeos are great. Weiland...such a great front man when he's on, a real nut when he isn't. Sounds like a good show though.

extreme jealousy, I love STP and with weiland back, oh yeah

+1 to all of the above.

The DeLeo bros. are really one of my all time favorites as writers/players. They are great at what they do, have great tones, display a pretty wide array of influences from clean, beautiful, soft stuff to big, punchy, music that stomps. Dean's "big, weird chords" are his biggest influence on me personally. I love writing around those big, fat, wide, diminished sounding chords where you can change one or two notes around and almost create an entire part out of it. Lots of texture. I use chords like that when I test guitar amps out too - to make sure I can hear all 6 notes clearly and it doesn't muddy up

Jordon,
No by the time we were done doing stuff and actually hungry again, we were sick of driving downtown :D We were gonna get something to eat at the Navy Pier from some restaurant/bar but they closed at or before 10:30(when we walked in). So we just said fuck it. Driving down there when you don't know the best way to go or where to go is kind of a pain. We drove past most of the places you mentioned at one point or another, just not when we were hungry. By the time we left it was damn near 11:30. We had fun though so no biggie. I'll throw some ribeye's with a nice rosemary/pepper rub on the grill tomorrow

Did you record the show ???
No, didn't have anything besides my camera. Took a couple short video clips, but the sound quality blows, so not really worth posting. not to mention, people bumping into me made for some pretty shotty camera work.

I wish I had a better camera or nice video camera that did really well with low light, but I'm too damn cheap to invest

I saw them in Camden NJ last week and it was a killer show as well.

Sounds like Scott is doing well for now.

I would have loved to see them....
