Stoner/Doom Speakers

trying to decide out of:

K100
Cannabis Rex
Swamp Thangz


no v30s i hate the way they sound with my amp, and i've tried loop eqing and everything. My highs are set basically on 0 and the presence pretty low when i'm playing doom. The highs and upper mids are still way to harsh.

I'm thinking Swamp Thangs in a 2x12 then take the V30s out of my 2x12 and X pattern with K100s. That way i mic the 2x12 live for stoner shit and 4x12 for my death metal shit


Doom tones I like:

Sleep - dopesmoker
Cough - idk the album I think they only have one
Burning witch - sacred predictions (possibly my favorite)
Kylesa (last 2 albums) I know laura uses the same amp live, sounds a fuck ton better than mine.

I myself am debating between either Cannabis Rexs or Swamp Thangs to run in an x pattern with v30s in my stiletto cab once I get it. Although I am not necessarily going for a doom sound, just a darker less bright tone. I am kind of leaning towards the swamp thangs, but I'm not sure yet.

For these types of tones, I run two seperate cabs. A bright and tight sounding V30 loaded Stiletto cab, and a dark and thick sounding 400 watt H&K cab.
If you have the means and/or space I suggest trying the same thing.

I have 3 cabs as my sig says, but I don't really have the cash for 8 speakers right now. Honestly its mostly between the eminence right now but I can't really find much info / reviewage of c rexes. Either way I will be running two amps (probably the 2x12 and 4x12 live)


Oh shit cough is coming back here. Definitely going to talk to those guys about speakers, though I def can't afford a matamp and 2 orange cabs which I think is what the one better sounding guy had.

Not sure what exactly you want, but maybe if you give Matamp a call I'm sure they'll be happy to suggest speakers that they normally recommend for bands like Sleep, which is practically what Matamp do best - doom and stoner rock.

I'm getting a 2x12 from them with a V30 on the bottom and a K100 on the top in a diagonal pattern, as standard. I'll be playing stuff like High on Fire, Neurosis and Mastodon with my Soldano.

Get those Zakk Wylde EV speakers....

Just make sure you have a REALLY REALLY well made cabinet Those speakers will tear up a weak cabinet!
