Strange frequency with my COD

Hello!

I just got my COD module. Great sound.... BUT, I hear a strange frequency when playing. Like a metal piece that fibrate somewhere inside :scared: . I change tubes but the problem is still here.
I notice the frequency change when I use the bright switch or when I turn the Treble control.

Here is a sample with 2 position of the bright switch:

And here is a pic of the module:

Help me please! Because the overall sound is cool but this noise make me crazy.

I think it comes from the bright switch in fact. Because the "hiss" comes when in "0" or "1" position. the "2" is ok.
Strange anyway... :(

It sounds like you might have some parasitic oscillation issues going on. Did someone mod your board from the top instead of underneath? I'd check the solder joints.

Thanks guys!

With bright on "2" however, it sounds Killer!!! :)

I hope Jeff comes here sometimes even if he's Eggie no more. I'll send him a mail.

When you look at the board, you can no notice it's written "MOD" and not "COD". Quite strange...

Seems like the board has been modded right around where it says MOD...odd :D

At the very least those resistors have been hand re-worked.....it makes me wonder if this was the COD that Jeff was experimenting with to get more gain out of?

Just got the answer from jeff and he told me he's not the one who mod the module.

So I emailed Bruce. Wait and see...

Bruce will take care of you. I think he might be in Germany so it might take a few days to get back with you.

Francois,
I am so sorry about this.
Jeff advertised it was stock and I trusted him. I never noticed the "MOD" on the board because the tube covered it.
Well that figures. The M4 he sold me with the COD was broken too and had to be returned.

Russ, I would hope you are not inferring I was intentionally selling items that were defective and that I had knowledge of it with our transaction. I played the COD in the M4 that I bought it with, they both worked fine. The M4 had a defective midi chip, 30 seconds and it was fixed. The COD well who knows what is going on with it. Did you find the COD sounded fine to you? I never took it out of the M4 and in hindsight, I should have taken it out and inspected it. I assumed it was stock and had no reason to think it was modified because it sounded fine.

I am sorry Francois about this situation. Bruce is back from Germany and has been made aware of the situation and will figure it out! If for some reason he can't figure it out, I will buy the module back from you and get you a brand new one.

I got an answer from Bruce!
As always, he is THE man!
In fact, he told me that 2 resistances were changed. So I will replace them with one with stock value and I'll see if the oscillating stop.

Jeff: thanks for your offer to buy me back the module but it's only a small problem to fix; it should be alright
Russ: you are a great seller; a fast and serious one.

The package arrived without any damage but who knows... maybe it's a soldering that fails, the bright switch or another component... Those things happens so it doesn't surprise me.... It's destiny

I know a very good tech that will change the resistance. I'll let you know if it was the reason for the oscillating.

Moreover, Bruce told me that the guy who solder the new resistor shouldn't have great skills in soldering so I think the problem may come from a failing solder, so it's nobody's fault but the guy soldering guy ;) ....

It is fixed!
Thanks to Bruce!
2 resistors back to normal and the sound is great!
