Schaller.....
+1 on schallers. On all my guitars.
Drilling?! What needs drilling? The Schallers screws are a little longer, I wipe em with wood glue screw, em in there, and not touch that guitar for a few days.

I dislike strap locks for the most part. The creaking, the squeaking, installing them, uninstalling them, getting the original buttons to hold properly afterward, blah. I`ve had a Schaller fail on me too because the button wasn`t fully engaged and my LP dropped to the floor.
I just use the Dunlop disc locks now. So simple and tightly secured with no modification. Dunlop also has a nice series of straps that have locks built into it so they just lock on to your guitars existing buttons.

+1 for the Schaller. I have them on all three of my strats. Have never had a problem with them.

I use Schaller strap locks on all my guitars. Been using them since the mid 80's and never had one fail.

I dont see how a lock failure can cause the guitar to fall if the strap portion is installed like a cup(open end facing up). Even if it fails to lock the guitar will still sit in the strap portion of the lock...

i have dunlop clip-lock straps screwed directly into all my road guitars (as i did some pretty violent movement in my old bands) and those never failed on me and sent my guitar flying and/or broke my strap like all the usual button-types did at some point (dunlop, schaller, etc.). but again, i was very aggressive with my guitar onstage. if you're not throwing the thing around night after night like i used to, any of the button-types will do fine. just make sure you either use wood glue or put in a small piece of toothpick alongside the screws to ensure a tight fit that wont come loose or eventually strip the screw hole (which will render your original strap pins useless as well). and always, ALWAYS tug on the strap once or twice after you've snapped it in to make sure it's locked in before you put it on and start playing, as the dunlops can be especially problematic in making you think it's locked when it really isn't.

for the guitars i keep at home though, i just leave the factory strap pins on. no reason to put strap locks on something i never use live.

+1 for the Schaller. I've used them since the stone age and they've never failed.

This is exactly why I recommend the Schaller strap locks!

Strat or Gibson, those Dunlop strap-locks are crap. They have failed on me twice in two days. Once on stage, the other in rehearsal. I'll be sending them back to Jim. Thank goodness I had a good hold on my Les Paul neck when the Dunlop rubbish failed. Not happy!

Odd man out here, but I've used Dunlops for 30 years without issue. Get whatever you're comfortable with, anything to secure the strap is better than risking a crash.

El Cheapo strap locks.

Go Fender if you want it to be completely stock. My Fender Deluxe Strat came new with Strap locks installed. They look like Fender branded Schallers to me. I have a strap with the Schaller lock and it fits fine on the Fender pin.

I used Schallers forever.Only problem with the Schallers is the nut on the strap works loose. A little LockTite fixes that though.

I use Schaller, but the old washer trick posted above is even better if you don't mind leaving your strap on while the guitar is cased up. I have different straps I like to use, otherwise I'd be 100% using washers.

Removed ALL the strap locks off of all my guitars.
Planet Wave Elliptical buttons.
I'll never use strap locks again.

Dunlop.
Better design than Schaller and the button can be used with a normal strap if you forget yours.

Dunlop or Schaller.

Do NOT use loxx, they fail quickly.

If you want all stock I say go the washer method or something of the sort, no need to change the buttons but makes it so your strap doesn't pop off

I've used Dunlops for 30+ years without 1 problem. However, I see lots of guys using the red Grolsch Beer Rings now:
