If I use 11/50's on a 25.5 scale guitar in standard/Drop D tuning, what guage strings would I need on a 27 scale Baritone, tuned to C/Drop B to have the same basic string tension/feel?

I have no clue...was thinking 13/56, but that is a complete guess.

Thanks!

Thanks....can anyone tell me what that means?  :D

+1

I've seen that thing a bunch of times and it makes no sense to me at all.

Well just look up with is the tension for your 11/50 at the tunning you play & then look what gauge you need to match that tension in your new tunning.

Item# Unit Weight g' f' e' d' c' b a g
PL007 .00001085 11.2 8.9 7.9 6.3 5.0 4.5 3.5 2.8

which means that 07 string tuned to g' will have 11.2 tension.

That may make perfect sense to everyone here...but it doesn't to me.

I appreciate the attempt to help, but don't have any idea what it means.

Maybe I am just asking the wrong question.

I just want my baritone to feel similar from a string tension standpoint as my standard guitars.

I would say stay with 11 for c with a bigger bottom string and go to 12's for B, if looking for the same feel as a 25.5 scale guitar. It will be slightly looser with 11's in c but close with 12's in B. Using a string tension calculator I got this for the high E, which isn't all the strings but it should hold close overall, your low E(c,b) is the biggest affected string when tuning down.

25.5 in Standard-011 : 19.6 27in standard-011 : 21.9 27in 1.5 step down- 012 : 18.5 (1.1 pound difference)

25.5in 1step down- 011 : 15.6 27in 1 step down- 011 : 17.4

25.5in 1.5 step down- .011 : 13.9 27in 1.5 step down- 011 : 15.5

Anyways........

I think you will do just fine with either 12-54 or 13-56.

FWIW, I use 14-72 when tuning to B standard on my baritone.

What guage do you use for standard tuning? I am trying to keep a "similar" feel as 11/50 in standard on a 25.5 guitar.

Orderd a set of 13/56's to try out.

These are the gauges I use on electrics:

Electric are D'Addario XL Nickel Wound custom sets:
Drop B: .0115, .017, .020p, .036, .046, .059 (25" Scale PRS)
Drop A#: .013, .018, .022p, .038, .048, .062 (25.1" Scale Ibanez)
Standard A440: .0095, .015, .019, .030, .040, .050 (25.5" Scale Schecter)
along with the Baritone gauge I mentioned above on a 26.5" short bari scale.
