had krk v8 version 2 for a long time.

switched to equator 8 coaxial and was better

now i i think i would like to either add a alternate monitor or just upgrade them completely.

I'm thinking about getting some room treatment before I buy anything else. From what I've read it makes a pretty big difference. I kind of knew it but have ignored it because it's not as cool as new gear. Maybe you haven't even heard what your current speakers are really capable of.

Check this video out:

I had quite a few different ones;
right now Focal CMS-65, which are really good in the sub $2k a pair group.

Those would be on my shortlist, together with the Neumann KH120A, maybe some Dynaudio's.

Biggest question: what's your budget? If you want to stay sub $1k, I doubt you will hear much improvement over your current set + some good room treatment. Well, maybe Adam A7X's...
I personally like their sound as well, although the Focals seemed to have more clarity in the low-end.

my room is pretty dead

filled with stuff

walls have some treatment

bass traps

made a slight difference

most apparant beheind and above

i had tried the older adam non x version and it was pretty good but not a wow moment for me.

focals are super clear

i guess i wanna keep it sub 1.5 to 2k

I don't know if you mean the 'super clear' part in a good or bad way?

Personally I found Genelec monitors quite fatuiging, whereas I can handle the Focals very well for longer sessions.
Dynaudio BM's were a tad smoother and more forgiving maybe, but that usually can cloud your judgment on mixes.

It seems that besides the Neumanns and Focals that I recommended, there's not that much more else that gets constant praise.
Mackie HR's are way too smooth these days; the old ones were great though. Maybe the Presonus Sceptre 8's?

I've had a set of APS Klassic monitors for a year and love them.

They are pretty revealing. I use them everyday just playing tunes on my mac and sometimes I notice something in a song that I never heard before even though I've listened to it a thousand times in the past. I have them paired with an Adam Sub8.

I had the Adam A7x. Now I have a smaller room I got the Adam A5x. Both are great monitors, with a nice midrange detail.

I've just bought a pair of Yamaha HS8. So far, they're great

I upgraded my 15 yr old Yorkville YS1s back in December to a set of Focal units. They are amazing!

If you want everything - accurate, non-fatiguing sound that somehow has it's own mojo - IOW, exciting to listen to, along with a super-clean transient response and oodles of headroom, and the ability to go louder than you'll ever need in your room, I highly recommend you look at the Aussie-designed and manufactured Event Opal.

Best bang-for-the-buck performance out there IMHO; it competes with the likes of PMC et al, punching well above its weight. Could easily be the last pair of monitors you ever buy.

been looking at the hs8 too
Those would definitely be a step sideways compared to your KRK's.

Focals (CMS and Solo series, not the Alpha), PMC's, Event Opals are in a higher league.

Just got a set of Adam S1Xs last week. I'm super happy with them so far - so powerful for their size. Really glad I went with them over the A7X - major upgrade from my limited experience.

i have always had my eye on event opals

worried about the baseline noise, hiss that people talk about
