Hi! I got a mako mak4 preamp... a real beast and I really like it, except, that I really need some sort of reverb. It doesn't have a loop, and it needs to run in series. ie., preamp-reverb- power amp.

Any Ideas? I have an old intellifex, but it alters the tone too much, and I used to own TC gmajor (not very good imho for live playing).
Pedals? I'm afraid that it would be too easy to overdrive the input, and conversely they might not have enough gain recovery on the output to sufficiently drive the power amp (I'm just guessing on that though... )

Any ideas? thanx

This works fine. Yes it colors the tone. I like the coloration. Sounds like 80's. I realize its old and cheap but so am I.

Avoid pedals unless they are made to run at line level, and few are. The input/output level control will allow you to make sure you have unity gain in and out of the unit. I set the level on the preamp, run the input level on the effect unit up until it starts to clip on the LED display (which still works :D) and then cut it back. Then you cut the output up until the volume is the same with the effects unit in line or bypassed. Once its set, it's set. You don't have to adjust it again unless you change your level settings on your preamp, so I use my power amp level as the volume control.

Spring Reverb:
The Furman RV1….I think it colors the tone. Harder to find but Ive seen them in the $200-$300 range
The Peavey Verb …. havent used one of those yet still $300-$400
Demeter reverb but I think they are in the $500 range they also make a pedal version with springs in it.

Digital:
Alesis quadra verb, they have a lot of units and not bad for digital. I had one, should of kept it. lol
TC Nova Verb. I had one and just got rid of it. I miss it! () I think any TC with reverb would work.

The Intellifex is one of the most transparent rack gears ever made. Make sure it's in Pre-HUSH. I doubt you'll find anything else as transparent as that unit.

ok, thanx for the in put. I used to have a quadraverb back in the early nineties, and then, and then got this intellifex.
I know, its transparent, I guess my moan, is that it seems to rob the rig of a certain "3-d" quality that I get from my other rigs. On Tape it sounds stellar though.
So maybe I 'm just looking for something that you can put in series that helps maintain the "girth and punch"... probably has something to do with the op-amps(?) in a digital rack units . Maybe why quadraverbs (and lxp1's) sounded good.

Eventide Timefactor...or their new Space pedal.
Yep.

I use the TF and PF with my Mak4, and albeit I used my Axe-Ultra as well, this preamp can take a lot of different boxes inbetween it and the power section. FWIW, the Eventides' product line is tough to beat.

Just sayin'
V.

PS - the Mak4, man, this preamp kicks ass    Plugged into mine today and have been rockin' it, the cut and thunder this thing produces, seriously, meanest amp I've ever had :D
